Linyi is the "hometown of calligraphers" and enjoys a good reputation at home and abroad. Also known as Book City, Calligraphy City and Calligraphy Holy City. Linyi has a long and rich calligraphy culture in history, and a generation of "book saints" Wang Xizhi, Wang Xianzhi, great calligraphers Yan Zhenqing, Yang Xin and others were born.
In September 2003, on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of Wang Xizhi's birth/KLOC-0, the municipal party committee and government held the first China Shusheng Culture Festival, which promoted the cultural brand of "hometown of Shusheng" to the whole country and the world. Since then, Linyi Scholar Culture Festival has been held once a year in September. In June 2006, the foundation stone of "China Calligraphy City" was laid in Linyi, with a length of1.200m from east to west and a width of more than 200m from north to south, with a total area of over 200,000m2. China Calligraphers Association awarded the title of "China Calligraphy City".
