Characteristics of Du Fu's Caotang
Du Fu Caotang, the former residence of Du Fu, a great poet of the Tang Dynasty in China, is located in Tsinghua Road, Qingyang District, Chengdu, Sichuan. Du Fu lived here for nearly four years and wrote more than 240 poems. Wei Zhuang, a poet in the late Tang Dynasty, discovered the former site of the thatched cottage and rebuilt it to preserve it. It was repaired and expanded in the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties.
Du Fu Caotang is the former residence of Du Fu, a great poet in Tang Dynasty in China. He lived here for nearly four years and wrote hundreds of poems. Therefore, it is regarded as a "holy land" in the history of China literature. Today's Du Fu Caotang has been rebuilt many times in Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties.
Caotang is located on the Huanhua River outside the west gate of Chengdu. There are many pavilions and ancient trees in the park. After entering from the main entrance, Dayu, Shishi Hall and Announcement Hall are arranged on the central axis from south to north. Northeast of Gongbu Temple is the former residence of Shaoling Monument Pavilion and the great poet's thatched cottage. To the east of the thatched cottage is a bonsai garden, followed by Huanhua Temple, Huajing, Daya Gallery and the thatched cottage showroom near the south gate.
The former residence of the thatched cottage was rebuilt with reference to the characteristics of folk houses in western Sichuan, becoming the landmark landscape of Du Fu's thatched cottage. In the bonsai garden on the east side of the thatched cottage, there is a "Du's Calligraphy Woodcut Gallery" built in 1999. There are three doors in the thatched cottage, of which the main entrance and the south gate are located in the south of the thatched cottage, and the north gate is located in the northwest. The main entrance and the south gate are not far apart, and tourists often come in and out from these two doors.
