Boya profile:
Boya, a doctor of the State of Jin during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, was born in Chu (now Jingzhou, Hubei). Boya was a famous pianist at that time, who was good at playing lyre and had superb skills. He is not only an expert in piano performance, but also a composer, and is regarded as the "piano fairy". Guqin website:
There are two controversies about Boya Guqin site: one is Boya Qintai (also known as Guqintai) on the lakeside of Yuehu Lake in Hanyang District, Wuhan, and the other is Diaokou in Diaoguan Town, Shishou City. Hanyang Guqintai was built in Jiaqing period of Qing Dynasty, destroyed by artillery fire in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression period and rebuilt after liberation. Diaoguan Pavilion was built in the Song Dynasty, but it was destroyed in the Republic of China due to disrepair, and it has not been restored yet. Guqintai was built in the Northern Song Dynasty and was destroyed many times in previous dynasties. Most of the existing buildings were rebuilt after 1949. The newly-built Guqintai is small in scale and exquisitely laid out. The main buildings are courtyards, gardens, flower beds, tea rooms and distinct levels.
Entering the gate, the main building is a hall with a half-eaves and a rest peak, three rooms wide, surrounded by cloisters, brick and wood houses, glazed tile roofs, colorful paintings and resplendence. The plaque under the eaves says "high mountains and flowing water". The main building is a hilltop with a single eaves, in front of which is a mansion-style hall with a square stone platform of white marble, which is said to be the place where Boya plays the violin. The word "Qintai" was handed down by Mi Fei, a famous calligrapher in the Northern Song Dynasty. There are inscriptions on the stele gallery and the forehead of the house, such as "Stone House", "Poems on Qintai" and "Flowing Mountains and Rivers", all written by famous artists. The wall is also inlaid with a continuous relief "Boya Xie Yinzhi", which is vivid and impressive. The whole complex is exquisite and elegant, retaining the style of ancient buildings in those days, and it is one of the key cultural relics protection units in Hubei Province and Wuhan City.
