Ouyang Zhongshi: Calligraphy is not writing, but writing culture.

The author Ouyang Zhongshi is a famous contemporary calligrapher, educator, Peking Opera artist and researcher. Ouyang Zhongshi is knowledgeable and has profound attainments in logic, Chinese studies, phonology, painting, drama, literature and calligraphy.

We should see the fact that our China culture has a long history and is still a very important topic. It's been stretching. Why is this possible? Well-founded, everything happens for a reason. To illustrate, let's first define China culture. I want to say that what has happened, developed and been going on in our land in China is our China culture. What I define is that this is a root of our Chinese land, and what happens, develops and progresses here is Chinese culture.

It is an inevitable phenomenon that the development of Chinese culture extends to all aspects, and many brother countries also have our Chinese culture. Specifically, there are three types of China culture. The first category really came step by step at the beginning of our nation, such as the classics and inheritance of pre-Qin culture, which we already have.

The second category is that with the development of social history, a lot of new knowledge occurred under different circumstances, such as the Wei and Jin Dynasties, when metaphysics came into being; In Song Dynasty, there was Neo-Confucianism; In the Qing Dynasty, there were Pu Xue and Ren Xue, both of which developed with the needs of the times in history, and they were also the culture of China.

The third category is that when our country comes into contact with many countries except us, a lot of new knowledge comes from abroad. Once this knowledge was combined with our culture, it immediately changed and was used by us. We melted it well, such as logic, which was called Xue Ming in ancient China, and has a very complete theory and a series of explanations in Mohist classics. At that time, western logic came and we accepted it. Indian logic came and we accepted it. We gradually make our modern logic both westernized, domestic and Indian.

It is combined with China's national conditions. It is fresh and energetic, but it has become our culture in China. We in China are not afraid of wealth. Welcome everyone. Another example is Zen, which is a part of Buddhism. After it spread to China, we in China gave it many new explanations when we understood it. Its appearance is no longer an Indian Zen, but has a new meaning, which combines our thinking in China with our concrete practice in China.

This combination has our China characteristics. I think this part is also great. So I want to talk about China culture, because it is more inclusive.

We have precious heritages, words and words. How can we make them shine? There is another way of expression in China, which is what we often call calligraphy now. The word "calligraphy" is somewhat ambiguous. Can you call it calligraphy if you write one word at a time? No, what's it called? "Book", our original book is a verb, which means to write.

The result of a book can also be used as a noun "book". Good "books" are called dharma books, not calligraphy, but dharma books. What does Buddhism mean? For people to learn and set an example. Such words are called calligraphy. Gradually, we expanded and sublimated this matter. When it comes to calligraphy, the knowledge of storytelling is called calligraphy.

Calligraphy is a knowledge about writing, and it can never be called calligraphy with one word. What is a book? The Ganjia School in Qing Dynasty said: Books are the Tao, not the question of universities, but the last skill, the last skill of a scholar. After writing, the rest is a scholar. There is some truth in these statements. After the abolition of the imperial examination in the Qing Dynasty, few people spoke and wrote.

But we see that many ancient classics were written by these people, so they can be preserved. It should be said that although it is a small way, it solves the big problem. These words can be written as sons. Although there are more and more alternative methods, printing and computers are now playing a role, which is the evolution of society and the inevitable result.

Then the word is useless. Why write? I want to say that there are many ways to display Chinese characters in print and computer. It is convenient for them to replace writing, but the original writing can't replace it. So, people who want to learn calligraphy, think about it, books have no way out? That's not true.

It should be said that it is more precious. But the demand for a large area, which everyone has written, is all calligraphers, and it is unlikely. However, there is a great enthusiasm in a person who writes well. People need to use what he wrote to show people the beauty, harmony and "benevolence, morality, literature and harmony" of China culture, which is more touching and meaningful. The rarer, the more valuable.

Writing, if it is actually to convey the true meaning by writing words, can be solved in primary and secondary schools. However, as this subject, it has a long history. From a long time ago, there was a problem of writing, which required a series of knowledge. As a discipline, it covers a wide and deep range. So when we talk about words and texts, we know how much knowledge a calligrapher needs to involve.

Therefore, it is an interdisciplinary subject, which seems to be a trivial matter, but it has been asked by universities. However, we must do a good job. As an educator in this field, can we make it meet the needs of China's current situation? So as I said, calligraphy is the halo outside the beads. Words are crystallization, writing is beading, and calligraphy is halo. It's three o'clock.

I deeply feel that a calligrapher has a heavy responsibility. I have four words about how to adapt our knowledge to the needs of society: write words, write words to convey the message, write books to revitalize the literary world, and be timely. Writing is for writing, * * * What? Words carry the Tao. What is this book for? Use books to rejuvenate it, make it an active and infectious image, and make it meet the requirements of the times. Therefore, our calligraphers have a heavy responsibility.

We can't just write a few words. If we understand it this way, we will underestimate the problem and put us in a primary school, which is inappropriate. As a research, it is far from such a process. In a deeper sense, books should be closely integrated with our culture. If the students we train can't make enough contribution to the society, it is our dereliction of duty.
