He studied under Liu Haisu, Huang and Pan Tianshou, and engaged in landscape painting. His paintings are fresh and simple, especially good at drawing willows. He has held seven solo exhibitions in Hankou, Xi and Tianjin, and participated in many joint exhibitions at home and abroad. Biographical portraits and representative works have been compiled into classics such as Observations on Art Across the Taiwan Strait, Dictionary of Contemporary Painters in China, Exhibition of Works by Famous Artists of Art and Calligraphy in China, Collection of Works of World Art, Biography of World Artists (Chinese Volume) and so on. Tianjin People's Fine Arts Publishing House published Xia Mingyuan's paintings. His works "Yunshan in Southern Anhui" were collected by Nanjing Art College, "Clouds in Huangshan Mountain" by China History Museum, "Sailing in the Willow" by Minneapolis Academy of Fine Arts, and "Jiangdu Xiao Chun" by Anhui Provincial Museum.
1994 was awarded the honorary gold medal of international cultural exchange by the Philippine authorities in February. 65438-0997 Huangling Temple was awarded a special honorary gold medal by the Immigration Development Bureau of the State Council Three Gorges Project Construction Committee, the Exhibition Department of China Artists Association and the China Three Gorges Painting Academy. 1999 "A Corner of qinglong river" won the Excellence Award of the 50th Anniversary Poetry Calligraphy Exhibition of China Artists Association and China Poetry and Calligraphy Institute.
