Yungang Grottoes, located at the southern foot of Wuzhou Mountain in the western suburbs of Datong City, Shanxi Province, were built in the Northern Wei Dynasty to worship Buddhism. It took 64 years, including five caves dug by Yao Tan, and then more than 200 caves were dug one after another. Grottoes are dug along the mountain, stretching from east to west 1 km. There are 45 main caves with more than 5 1000 statues, which is one of the largest ancient caves in China.
Longmen Grottoes are located on the cliffs of Longmen Mountain and Xiangshan Mountain on the Yishui River12km south of Luoyang City, Henan Province, China. They were mainly excavated from the mid-Northern Wei Dynasty to the Northern Song Dynasty, which lasted for more than 400 years. Up to now, there are still more than 2 100 grottoes, more than 100 statues and more than 3,600 inscriptions, of which the largest number is located in the largest stone grottoes in China. The grotto is a large stone carving art museum, because it preserves a large number of physical materials such as religion, art, architecture, calligraphy, music, clothing, medicine and so on.
