Introduction

In the process of getting to know my aunt Ma Fulan, I discovered that she had funded He Longhong's Second Regiment with money and food.

Overview

Ma Fulan: also known as Fulan. He was born in Changjuan in the 33rd year of Guangxu's reign (1907) in the Qing Dynasty.

Her husband Chen Jianmei was born in the "Chen Family Courtyard" on the hillside of Wangtian Tulao Mountain in Lujiwan, Wuluo Village, Jinshiqiao Town, Longhui County. He graduated from National Southeast University (the predecessor of National Central University). The 30th generation grandson of Bo Wan; his father Chen Yili was a Gongsheng student in the late Qing Dynasty, and his grandfather Chen Zongxiao was a sixth-rank official in the Qing Dynasty.

His father, Ma Guotang, was an enlightened gentleman and an early explorer of mining in Hunan in modern times; his cousins, Ma Feibai and Ma Zigu, were the first intellectuals in Longhui to accept Marxist ideas; Brother Ma Jucai is a believer in Marxism-Leninism and a determined revolutionary; his cousin Ma Fanglan joined the revolution as early as 1927 and organized women to carry out anti-imperialist and anti-feudal activities.

Under the influence and support of her brothers and sisters, Ma Fulan sympathized with the poor people and supported the revolution. On December 13, 1935, He Long led the Second Corps of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army into Longhui territory; Ma Fulan offered his ancestral home "Chen Family Courtyard" as his headquarters; on the 14th, He Longan lived in the right room of the back main house. At the same time, the Red Army also generously provided money and food.

After the Red Army left the "Chen Family Courtyard", Ma Fulan continued to support the cause of progress; during the years of war and chaos, she once rushed to the Huanghuangjing Yingfengping execution ground in a sedan chair and rescued revolutionary soldiers under the knife.

Ma Fulan is knowledgeable, sensible, diligent and thrifty, does good deeds widely, and is a good neighbor to the village. In years of famine, alms and rice are given to the hungry people in liters. No matter in a good or bad year, in addition to sharing the grain proportionally, the tenants would be given a banquet at the end of the year to reward them for their work for a year. Decades after his death, there are still villagers who are grateful for his kindness. Every time you visit relatives, you must have two pairs of shoes. One pair goes with the bearer of the sedan chair. When you get to the door of your house, you can change your shoes and take the sedan chair.

The Ma family ancestral hall was founded in the 53rd year of Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1714); it was renovated in 1935 by Yu Youren [1].
