Zhang's great-grandfather was liquidated after his death. It was not until 1622 (two years tomorrow) that Zhang was rehabilitated in the Ming Dynasty. 1640 (in the thirteenth year of Chongzhen), when Emperor Chongzhen wrote a letter to recover Zhang (Zhang Zhangzi), he was named the official of the Chinese Secretariat. According to the Ming History, in 1644 (the seventeenth year of Chongzhen), Zhang's subordinates attacked Zhang's hometown Jiangling, forcing Zhang's fifth son to become an official. Zhang Yunxiu refused and committed suicide at the age of 79. 1642 (in the 15th year of Chongzhen), Emperor Chongzhen ordered Zhang Tongchang to offer condolences to the kings of Huguang and transferred troops to Yunnan. When Zhang Tongchang finished all his errands, the news came that Beijing had fallen, and soon Nanjing fell again. At this time, I received an order from Zhu (Nanming, grandson of Zhu Yuanzhang IX, the Ming emperor). Zhu then sent to Hunan to fight the Qing army. On the way, I learned that Tingzhou (composed of Changting, Liancheng, Ninghua, Liu Qing, Guihua, Shanghang, Wuping and Yongding, historically known as "Hakka stronghold") had fallen, and all China was in the hands of the Qing army except the southwest corner. Therefore, Zhang Tongchang first relied on He Tengjiao to gain a firm foothold in Wugang.
After Zhu was captured, Zhu Youlang officially acceded to the throne in Zhaoqing, using a perpetual calendar. Zhang Tongchang turned to Guangxi and defected to Zhu Youlang. Zhu Youlang was awarded a bachelor's degree in imperial academy, Zhang Tongchang, because of his "a thousand words in poetry and prose". 1649 (six years of Shunzhi, three years), Zhang Tongchang was appointed assistant minister of the Ministry of War of Li Yong regime and bachelor of the Imperial Academy, and was recommended by his master Qu Shizhen (who once made Zhu Youlang emperor and served as an official in the small court and a minister of the Ministry of War), and was appointed as the commander-in-chief of various military forces in Guangxi. Zhang Tongchang was the first when his troops were advanced; When he wavered, he did nothing, and he gradually gained the trust of the soldiers. Wang Yongzuo and others surrounded Yongzhou, and the Qing soldiers went to the rescue. Hu Yiqing led the crowd to meet the enemy, not to mention being defeated. Zhang Tongchang galloped to Quanzhou and led the troops with Yang Guodong.
/kloc-in the first month of 0/650 (the seventh year of Shunzhi and the fourth year of Li Yong), Nanxiong was captured by Qing soldiers. Li Yong fled to Wuzhou. Guilin was besieged and the Ming army in the city dispersed in a hubbub. Qu Shizhen is alone. Zhang Tongchang immediately swam across the river and rushed to the left-behind yamen. He met Qu Shizhen and said, "The situation is so critical. What do you do? " Qu Shizhen said, "I am left behind, and I have the responsibility to keep this place,' the city survives the city'. Today, I died for my country and died fair and square. You don't stay, why don't you go? " Zhang Tongchang said, "If you want to die, die together. Teacher, don't you allow me to die with you? " I sat in the chair next to me and drank with Qu Shizhen. The east turned pale, and the Qing soldiers rushed into the yamen to bind them. Qu Shizhen said: "We are not afraid of death. We have to wait all night and don't need to tie it up. " Zhang Tongchang swaggered out of the yamen.
Kong Youde's surrender was strongly rejected by Qu. Kong didn't know him, so he got down on his knees. Zhang Tongchang didn't kneel down, but revealed Kong Youde's background and swore. Kong became angry from embarrassment and slapped; Some of his guards pressed Zhang Tongchang's cervical vertebrae to make him bow; Some people hit Zhang Tongchang on the knee with the back of a knife and asked him to kneel down. Broken arm, blind in one eye. Seeing this atrocity, Qu Shizhen could not restrain her anger. He stepped forward to help Zhang Tongchang up and said loudly, "This is Governor Zhang Tongchang, Minister of State. He is as determined to die for his country as I am. Let's die together. We must not be rude! "
Kong Youde ordered the two men to be imprisoned in the temporary prison of Fengdong Mountain (now called Diecai Mountain). Locked in different rooms, two people are allowed to exchange messages in an attempt to persuade them to surrender slowly. At the same time, he also sent people to deliver exquisite food, but both of them were knocked over by two people, and they were dismissed as "food inferior to pigs and dogs", and they didn't stop until the delivery person was replaced by a former Ming Dynasty official.
Qu Shizhen was in his cell, but Kong Youde sent someone to surrender more than once, but they were all rejected. Later, Kong Youde lowered his hopes and suggested that as long as he was a monk, he could avoid death, but he was also sternly rejected.
Because Qu Shizhen gave Jiao Lian a secret letter, telling him the actual situation of the Qing soldiers in Guilin and asking him to attack Guilin quickly. This letter was found by the police and dedicated to Kong Youde. Kong Youde flew into a rage.
1 1 month 16 in the morning, A Qingbing suddenly opened the door and claimed: "Please ask Qu Gebu and Zhang Daren to discuss this matter." Two people naturally know what is going on,
Qu Shizhen smiled and said to Zhang Tongchang, "I have lived another forty days. Today, it is really a fair death! " Zhang Tongchang said loudly, "Go out today and die happily! When I die, I want to be a spectre and kill a thief for my country! " As he spoke, he took out his treasured net towel from his pocket and put it on his head. "Take it underground to see the first emperor!" "
Qu Shizhen and his wife went to Diecai Mountain in the north of Guilin. He looked into the distance, and as far as he could see, there were still scenery everywhere, so he said to the executioner, "I have loved beautiful scenery all my life. This place is quite good, so I can go!"
Zhang Tongchang's mood is full of excitement. All his life, he once said, "I heard that the virtue of a loyal minister and a dutiful son will touch the sky." 1650 (the seventh year of Shunzhi and the fourth year of Li Yong) died in Xianheyan (southeast of Fengdong Mountain) on November 17th of the lunar calendar.
After the death of Qu Shizhen and Zhang Tongchang, the former minister of Ming Dynasty who had become a monk was rescued by Qu Shizhen and buried in Jinbao.
When Zhang Tongchang's head fell to the ground, he took three steps forward and then fell down, along with the martyrs, Zhu Hengyan, King of Jingjiang. Zhang Tongchang's wife also died.
