Can calligraphy be taught by itself?

Of course you can. Because I'm practicing running script these days, it's Zhao Mengfu's Luo Shen Fu. I thought running script was simpler than regular script, but I didn't expect it to be easy to write, and one stroke changed more. But many calligraphers have experienced this process.
