The Yellow River Stone Forest is located in Jingtai County, Baiyin City, Gansu Province, 70km away from Baiyin, Lanzhou 160km away from Zhongchuan Airport 120km away from Shapotou 170km in Ningxia, with a total area of about 50km. It was formed in the conglomerate of Wuquanshan Formation of Lower Pleistocene 2,654.38+million years ago.
Its formation and evolution process clearly records the changes of paleogeographic environment in this area since the uplift of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and it is a geological landscape of conglomerate stone forest with international typical significance and great scientific research value. It is a comprehensive geological relic integrating landform, geological structure, natural landscape and human history. It is a geological relic nature reserve and a national geological park in Gansu Province.
Main scenic spots of the Yellow River Stone Forest
The ancient stone forest group, the core landscape of the scenic spot, was formed in the gravel stratum 26.5438+10,000 years ago. Due to neotectonic movement, rain and flood erosion and gravity collapse, many peak forests and clusters composed of cliffs and rock pillars 80-200 meters high have been formed. Ten miles long canyon, like a gallery. Strange peaks and steep cliffs, cliff crevices, various forms and wonders. Or slim and graceful, graceful; Or rough and simple, spectacular and magnificent. The scenic spot presents a natural, large-scale and multi-level geological structure.
There are as many as eight gullies in Shilin Scenic Area. Under the strong uplift of the earth's crust, deep canyons were formed in the Yellow River basin, which widened the ravines. Local light and weak layers cut down rapidly under the action of water and gravity, forming a large number of stone peaks and columns along both sides of the gully. At the same time, it was transformed by wind erosion, forming many windows and other structures on the cliff wall, forming a unique landscape under the strong action of water erosion and wind erosion.
