Appreciation of Cheng Ju's Poem Huting

Clouds set in the western hills, sails swept the sky mirror.

Whoever opens the window is quiet.

Cold toad hair pale white, a rain broke the loneliness.

When you invite the bamboo forest to make friends, do your best.

The ship is still in the north of the city, and the bell is faintly heard.

Cheng Ju

Huting, near Taihu Lake, in Wujiang, Jiangsu Province today. In the Northern Song Dynasty, Cai Dian wrote the poem "Huting": "Changfeng comes from the southeast, and the turbid waves scrape the mirror. Xiao Xuan is lonely and silent. " Cai's Note to Li E's Chronicle of Song Poetry: "See Wujiang County Records." Cheng Ju's poem Huting was written by Cai Dian.

According to Cheng Juchuan, the history of Song Dynasty, in his early years, Cheng Ju "supplemented the main book of Wujiang in Suzhou and supervised the tea plantation in Taihu Lake in Zhou Shu". Suddenly the pavilion was written in this period. Cheng Ju wrote in the poem "Youdida": "Taihu Lake is secluded and stubborn, looking at the western hills with your chin on your hand." (See Chronicle of Song Poetry) The poem You Lingyan in Wuxian says, "Tomorrow, the night will be dark." Taihu Lake? "Three Stories of West Road" said: "Xishan Road is dark and Dongshan is red." (See Beishan Collection for the above. ) The "Western Hills" in these poems and the first sentence of this poem "Clouds fall on the Western Hills" are mutual proofs, which also shows that Huting was written by the poet when he visited Taihu Lake in his early years.

The poet traveled at dusk and sailed into the quiet Taihu Lake. At the beginning of the poem, people are introduced into the realm of strange beauty. Colorful sunset clouds float across the western hills, the breeze blows gently, and sailboats gently cross the mirror-like lake. This scene is reminiscent of a famous sentence in Wang Bo's Preface to Wang Tengting: "The sunset is lonely in Qi Fei, and the autumn water is * * * the sky is one color."

"Who opened a window, this thousand hectares of peace. The cold toad is pale, and the rain breaks loneliness. " The poet boarded the pavilion and looked out of the window. The window of the pavilion faces the lake, and the lake shines brightly. He praised the clever opening of the window, leaning against the window, and having a panoramic view of the thousand hectares of Taihu Lake. When the curtain of the dark night slowly descends, the lake scene becomes more beautiful, and the bright moon reflects the water surface and emits a faint white light, which is hazy and mysterious. (Cold toad borrows the moon, and Li He's poem "Dream of Heaven" says: "The old rabbit cold toad cries the sky, and the half-open wall of the cloud tower is inclined to be white." A gust of wind brought a moment of rain, which destroyed the calm and tore the lake and the moon to pieces, as if they had sunk to the bottom of the lake. Lonely, borrow the moon.

"When you invite the bamboo forest to make friends, do your best." Seven or eight sentences outline the poet's interests. He sometimes invites friends to parties. These friends are noble-minded, just like the seven sages of bamboo forest in Jin Dynasty. He sometimes visits his intimate friends, such as Dai on snowy nights because of his interest (see Shi Shuo Xin Yu).

"The ship is still in the north city, and the bell is faintly heard." Return to the city by boat. On the way back to the North City in a brisk boat, the poet vaguely heard the ringing and sweet bells from the nearby temples. The poem vaguely reveals the attachment to the pavilion.

These five ancient essays are light and poetic, which are obviously influenced by the "elegant and carefree" landscape poems of Wei, a poet in the middle Tang Dynasty.
