The difference between big print and small print is not the font size, so why are their names "big" and "small"?

As early as 6000 years ago, the ancients began to draw symbols and images on pottery to record information and express emotions. In the long process of historical development, these pure pictures gradually evolved into hieroglyphics. During the period of Zhou Xuanwang, Taishi Shuan tried to collect and sort out inscriptions on bronze, so he wrote 15 pieces of Shi Shuan, also known as Shuan Wen, Shuan Zhuan, Shuan Shu and Historical Records, which was later called Da Zhuan.

The difference between a big seal and a small seal! During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, the books of Qin, Chu, Qi, Yan, Zhao, Wei and Han were written in different languages. In 22 1 year BC, Qin destroyed six countries, unified the whole country and quickly established a unified culture. As soon as the Qin Dynasty was established, Qin Shihuang adopted and ordered Li Si, the prime minister, to carry out reform policies such as "recording the same text".

Therefore, Reese was ordered to write Cang Xie, CZ ordered Zhao Gao to write a calendar, and a surname ordered Hu Wujing to write a book of learning. Based on the characters of Qin State, they sorted, preserved and simplified the original characters, and formed a more regular and recognizable new character, which was issued as a unified national standard character and later called "Xiao Zhuan". For the characters used in previous times, it is called "Da Zhuan".

In Shu Duan, the relationship between father and son is used as a metaphor for the development of fonts, and the relationship between Da Zhuan and Xiao Zhuan can also be regarded as the relationship between "father" and "son". The ancients regarded "big" as "Shang", meaning tall and supreme, such as calling grandfather "big father" and grandmother "big mother". After the word "big" was added to the ancient script of the origin of seal script, a word "small" was added to the standard seal script to show the difference and correspondence.

Compared with the big seal script, the small seal script is slender and compact, with even lines and uniform strokes. It has the beauty of simplicity and roundness, just like jade edge, so it is also called "jade edge seal" (also called "jade seal seal"). In the Qin Dynasty, Xiao Zhuan became the standard and common font of official documents. In addition to the simple and fixed font structure, the chapter layout can also form a sequence of vertical and horizontal parallelism, and the number of words is much richer than that of Dazhuan.

Summary: As the head of five-style calligraphy, seal script, official script, cursive script, running script and regular script is an independent calligraphy style, which is favored by calligraphers of all ages because of its beautiful font and strange form.
