Creative background
"Wen Guanjun Takes Henan and Hebei" was written in the spring of 763 AD (the first year of Guangde), when Du Fu was 52 years old. In the winter of the first year of Baoying (AD 762), the Tang army fought a great victory in Hengshui near Luoyang. Rebel leaders Xue Song, Zhang Zhongzhi and others surrendered one after another. Shi Chaoyi committed suicide after defeat, and his generals Tian Chengsi and Li Huaixian surrendered one after another. Henan and Hebei were successively recovered by the army, and the "Anshi Rebellion" that lasted for more than seven years was completely put to rest.
Du Fu was a poet who loved his motherland but suffered from grief. At that time, the poet Du Fu was living in Zizhou, Sichuan with his wife. After hearing the news, he was overjoyed and wished he could return to his peaceful and stable hometown immediately. In the midst of extreme excitement, he changed his past melancholy and reserved poetic style and wrote this popular seven-rhythm masterpiece in a lively, hearty and unrestrained language.
