A stranger in a foreign land , I miss my loved ones even more during the festive season.
I know from afar that my brothers have climbed to a high place, and there is one less person planting dogwood trees everywhere.
Translation:
I am wandering alone as a guest in a foreign land. Whenever the festival comes, I miss my relatives even more.
I recall that when my brothers in my hometown were climbing high, I was the only one missing when planting dogwood trees.
The original annotation of this poem: "When he was seventeen." It means that this is Wang Wei's work when he was seventeen. At that time, Wang Wei was wandering alone between Luoyang and Chang'an. He was from Puzhou (now Yongji, Shanxi). Puzhou was east of Huashan, so he called the brothers in his hometown Shandong brothers. September 9th is the Double Ninth Festival, and there is a custom of climbing in some places in China.
