Immortal Palace, Peach Blossom Fan, Romance of the West Chamber and Peony Pavilion
The Palace of Eternal Life is based on the love story between Emperor Ming of Tang Dynasty and Yang Guifei. From the moment there was a little truth between the emperor and the princess, Yang Yuhuan defended her stable relationship with Li Longji. She is jealous, curious, noisy and invites all kinds of pets. As the son of heaven, Emperor Ming of Tang Dynasty "relaxed the imperial court and occupied the love field". The abandonment of Chaogang aroused the resistance of An Lushan, an aspirant, and the resentment of the army and the people. Under the pressure of sergeant mutiny, Emperor Tang Ming sentenced Yang Yuhuan to death in Maweipo. However, the change of Ma Wei is not the end of the play.
Peach Blossom Fan is the love object with Li. Kong Renshang used it to record the ups and downs of the hero and heroine, and also used it to connect various character activities. The play begins with a gift of a fan, and Hou Li's love is intertwined with the struggle of Fu She against Ruan Dacheng, a remnant of the Party. Yang Longyou's help and Ruan Dacheng's dowry contributed to their union. The bride pays more attention to honor than her husband. When the gift is returned, Hou Fangyu is immediately resented. Ruan Dacheng falsely accused him of colluding with Zuo Liangyu, and Hou had to flee to Shi Kefa, so the husband and wife separated. Therefore, the different experiences of Hou and Li reflect all aspects of Nanming politics. This route in Hou Fangyu is related to major events such as Shi Kefa and Zuo Liangyu, and the exclusion of Axe King and Shi Kefa. Li's trip described the ugly scene of stealing a banquet tour.
The Story of the West Chamber is about a scholar who fell in love with Yingying, Cui's daughter who lives in Pujiu Temple, and then tried to marry her in Beijing and abandoned her. Master Wang rewrote this tragedy and made Zhang Sheng and Ying Ying fall in love. In order to fight for the freedom of love, with the enthusiastic help of the maid matchmaker, * * * fought with the old lady Cui and finally left together. The bold depiction of young men and women's tryst and elopement in the play, as well as the wish at the end of the play that "all lovers shall be well, jack shall have Jill", clearly declare the legitimacy of independent marriage, although it still belongs to the love at first sight of talented people and beautiful women.
Peony Pavilion is the representative work of Tang Xianzu. The story goes like this: Du Liniang, the daughter of Du Bao, a magistrate in Nan 'an, Fujian, went to play in the garden and had a tryst with scholar Liu Mengmei in her dream. When she woke up, she was lovesick and died. Three years later, Liu Mengmei went to Lin 'an to take the exam. After passing through Du Liniang's cemetery, she picked up her self-portrait, met Du Liniang's ghost, dug the grave, opened the coffin, revived Du Liniang, and they got married. However, Du Bao did not recognize their union, and it was not until Liu Mengmei won the first prize and the emperor came to power that things were satisfactorily resolved.
