What is the effect of using reduplicated words in the first six sentences of Qing Jiang Bian Cao Shi?
The proper use of reduplicated words in poetry makes the depicted natural scenery or characters more vivid. The first six sentences of Grass by the Qingqing River use six overlapping words: "Grass by the Qingqing River, willow in the lush garden. Yingying is a woman upstairs, as bright as a window. She is dressed in pink and slim and delicate. " The first two sentences use "green and gloomy" to describe the scenery. The last four sentences are written about people, and the four groups of overlapping words describe Sifu's posture, appearance and clothing very vividly.
