History and Culture of Dechang County

Dechang County is a multi-ethnic county, with many ethnic minorities such as Han, Yi, Lisu, Hui and Tibetan, especially Lisu. The Lisu nationality in Dechang County is the most populous county in Sichuan Province, with two townships and a total population of more than 6,000. Lisu people can sing and dance well. In the past, farming and hunting were the mainstay, but now men don't hunt, but they have become the bane of wild poison bee. They look for, track and capture all kinds of wild poison bee, foster them under the eaves, trunks and soil of their own homes, and sell them when the pupae mature. Lisu women are good at weaving fire grass linen and handmade wool belts, especially hand-sewn and embroidered women's clothes.

Lisu people love to sing and dance, and they should sing and dance at weddings, funerals and celebrations (duets). The wedding is very mysterious. The best man, the bridesmaid and the bride and groom must sleep in the same bed to have a good night.

Nine Lisu folk dances, costumes, wide food festivals, wedding customs, Hulusheng making, embroidery, fire grass weaving skills, oral string making and folk customs in Dechang were successively approved by the Sichuan Provincial People's Government as intangible cultural heritage in Sichuan Province 201/kloc-0 years ago.
