"Hedong Lion Roars" refers to the roar of his wife.
Hedong these two words are a pity joke to his friend Long Qiu Jushi (Chen Jichang). He only talks about metaphysics of "emptiness" and "being" all day, and forgets to eat and sleep. His wife is fierce and jealous. Longqiu layman once suddenly heard her roar like a lion in Hedong. When people stay, they feel that their hands on crutches have fallen off and their whole hearts are blank.

This poem was written in the eighth year of Yuanfeng in Song Shenzong (AD 1085), and Su Shi has returned from Huangzhou. Wu Deren, a native of Qichun, was a famous figure at that time. Huangzhou is close to Qichun. It is a pity that Su Shi visited Lanxi in Qichun and failed to meet Wu Deren. Su Shi expressed his yearning for Wu's leisurely life in his poems. No matter how he learns Taoism and recites Buddhism, he is not as free and easy as Wu. He drinks and eats meat, keeps things safe, and learns to forget friends at home.
