Wang Wei is good at picking up ordinary materials from life. The farewell poems he wrote may seem plain, but when read carefully, the words are shallow and affectionate. The farewell poems he wrote include:
1. Farewell
Wang Wei? [Tang Dynasty]
Get off your horse and drink your wine, and ask where you are?
You are dissatisfied with your words, so you return to the south mountain frontier.
But don’t ask again, when the white clouds are endless.
Translation: Please dismount and have a glass of wine. I want to ask my friend where you are going? You said that because you were unhappy with your life, you wanted to return to your hometown and live in seclusion near Zhongnan Mountain. Just go and I won't ask any more questions. There are endless white clouds floating in the sky.
Note:
Drink your wine: urge you to drink.
Drink, make... drink.
Where to go. Go.
Return to bed: live in seclusion. Nanshan: Zhongnan Mountain, southwest of Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province today. Border: edge. But, only.
2. Sending Li Shijun of Zizhou
Wang Wei? [Tang Dynasty]
Ten thousand valleys have towering trees, and thousands of mountains ring with cuckoos.
It rains all night in the mountains, and there are hundreds of springs under the trees.
Han women lose cloth, and Ba people sue for taro fields.
Wen Weng turned over professors and did not dare to rely on sages.
Translation: Among the thousands of mountains and valleys, there are towering trees everywhere and the singing of cuckoos. After a night of spring rain in the mountains, hundreds of springs were seen in the mountains. From a distance, they seemed to be hanging in the treetops. The women of Hanshui worked hard to weave and pay taxes, while the Ba people who had little land often filed lawsuits to fight for land. I hope you will carry forward the political achievements of Wen Weng and work hard to live up to the achievements of the forefathers.
