Autumn Poems - "Autumn Embrace"

"Autumn Embrace" is a five-character poem written by Ouyang Xiu, a writer in the Northern Song Dynasty.

"Autumn Embrace"

Era: Song Dynasty Author: Lu You

The gardener picked cucumbers by the frame, and the village girl picked green flowers along the fence.

The city is still hot, and the autumn light reaches the wild people’s homes first.

This poem expresses the author's complex emotions of loving life and lamenting state affairs. Isn't it good that the first couplet talks about the scenery that is produced according to the seasons? Why are the autumn thoughts it causes so depressing? The couplet did not answer directly, but continued to describe "saving things" and chanting the beauty of autumn. So, why do you feel so sad?

This couplet adopts the technique of line drawing to vividly describe the scene of wine flags waving in the west wind and chrysanthemums blooming in the drizzle. It uses a happy scene to set off the sadness of the first couplet, and highlights the poet from the side. The mood is gloomy.

The neck couplet tells us that because the poet lamented the state affairs, even his temples became confused with sorrow and sorrow! I was really ashamed to live such a mediocre life with little to gain from it, so I wrote the last couplet about the author's thought of going into seclusion. This is where the poet feels dejected.
