The first Yalu River Bridge is 944m long and 1 1 m wide. It is composed of 12 sets of chord substructure steel beams, and the upper ends of the steel beams are arched. Korean 6 groups, each group leader is 60.96 meters; There are six groups on the China side, each group leader is 91.44m ... The fourth group of steel beams on the Chinese side is an open rotating beam, which is driven by four driving gears and driven by passive gears. The rotating beam is supported on the pier turntable, which can rotate horizontally for 90 degrees as a whole to become an openable bridge body, so as to facilitate the navigation of ships. It takes only four people to make this group of steel beams open and close freely, and each rotation takes 20 minutes. At the same time, the bridge itself has a mechanical locking device, which is the first parallel rotating opening and closing bridge on the world railway.
The opening and closing time of the bridge is one hour, four times day and night. This used to be a wonder on the Yalu River. Every time the bridge is opened, the masts of various ships cover the river, which is spectacular.
Because the opening and closing time is fixed and the tidal time changes frequently, it brings a lot of trouble to the navigation of ships on the river. At high tide, the water is only eight meters from the bridge deck. If the bridge is closed, large ships can't pass, so they have to break down. On the contrary, if the transfer bridge is open at low tide, large ships cannot sail because the channel is shallow. 1938 after the completion of the lagushao hydropower station in the upper reaches of the Yalu river, the water level of the Yalu river dropped, and large ships could no longer enter the river near the urban area, so the interchange bridge was closed. 1943 after the completion of the second Yalu river bridge, the first bridge was changed into a highway bridge, with a carriage road in the middle and sidewalks on both sides, with a passage to north Korea on the left and a passage to China on the right.
1950 When the Korean War broke out, the two bridges on the Yalu River became an important passage to resist U.S. aggression and aid Korea, and also became the focus of bombing by American planes.
1950165438+1On October 8th, the US military dispatched hundreds of B29 bombers to blow up the First Bridge, which was still the main trunk line in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea after being repaired by the Volunteers and the Anton Railway Branch. 195 1 February, this bridge was blown up by an American plane again, and it has been a "broken bridge" ever since. Today's "broken bridge" has been transformed and still retains its former style. Bunkers, turntables, broken walls and gun holes still exist. As a scenic spot of Yalu River, it is also a relic of the imperialist war of aggression.
