Su Dongpo commented on Huang Tingjian's words as "hanging a snake on a dead branch", which meant that his paintings were thin and hard. This is naturally a joke. Many people just think that this is a major drawback of Huang Tingjian's calligraphy. Huang Tingjian's calligraphy comes from three aspects. First of all, he carefully absorbed silk from the original works of famous artists such as Zhang Xu and Huai Su in the Tang Dynasty, and realized the wonderful pen of the Tang Dynasty.
For contemporary calligraphy learning, if we can learn from Huang Tingjian's calligraphy, we can really break through the rigid barrier. Calligraphy in Song Dynasty is also a shortcut for calligraphers to succeed in Jin and Tang Dynasties for thousands of years.
