Original poem:
The road to Zhu Ya with bronze pillars is difficult, and the prodigal son crosses the sea to ascend the altar. Coral trees in Zigong, Vietnam, and He Lao, the Chinese ambassador. Tired of Mashan, worried about dusk, afraid of the cold spring on the lonely boat. The origin of this goods is rare, but I'm afraid the king can't bear to see it. This poem is from Zhang Wei's Du Song Gong Xi (Tang Dynasty).
Appreciation of poetry and prose:
This is a poem that satirizes the local officials buying human feelings in the name of tribute. Delicate words, correct words. The whole poem can be divided into two parts. If one or two sentences are sarcastic, three or four sentences are positive comments. It means that Han and Tang dynasties were powerful and were impressed by their prestige.
The people of South Vietnam will willingly present precious gifts such as coral trees to the court, so why did Du go all the way to Wan Li to ask for them himself? The last four sentences are the second part. It may not be very flattering for the emperor to write that Du Shi took risks and seized tributes. Five or six sentences follow the first sentence, highlighting the word "difficult to do". The horse was exhausted and had to climb the mountain and wade for fear that the sun would miss the trip.
