1. "Bodhi Verses"
Tang Dynasty: Huineng
Bodhi has no tree, and the mirror is not a stand.
Buddha nature is always pure, where is the dust!
The body is like a bodhi tree, and the mind is like a mirror.
The bright mirror is originally pure, but it is stained with dust!
Bodhi has no tree, and the mirror is not a stand.
There is nothing there, so where is the dust!
Bodhi can only be found in the heart, so why bother seeking mysteries from outside?
I heard that by practicing this, the West is only now!
Translation: There was no Bodhi tree in the first place, nor was it a bright mirror stand. As long as the nature is empty, there will be no dust! The body of all living beings is like a tree of enlightened wisdom, and the mind of all living beings is like a bright mirror.
The bright mirror is very clean to begin with, so how can it be contaminated with dust! There was no Bodhi tree in the first place, nor was it a bright mirror stand. The four elements are originally empty, no matter where they are, they are stained with dust! Bodhi is only looking within, why bother to seek mysteries from the outside world? If you practice yourself in this way, the paradise world will be right in front of you!
2. "Returning to the Garden and Living in the Fields (Part 1)"
Wei and Jin Dynasties: Tao Yuanming
Seldom has no vulgar charm, and his nature loves hills and mountains.
I accidentally fell into the dust net and passed away for thirty years.
The tame birds miss the old forest, and the fish in the pond miss their old abyss.
Open up the wilderness in the south, stay humble and return to the garden.
The square house covers more than ten acres and has eight or nine thatched houses.
The elms and willows shade the back eaves, and the peach and plum trees in front of the hall.
The distant village is warm and the smoke is lingering in the ruins.
Dogs bark in the deep alleys, and roosters crow at the top of the mulberry trees.
The courtyard is clean of dust and clutter, and the empty room has plenty of leisure.
After being in a cage for a long time, you can return to nature.
Translation: I have not followed vulgar trends since I was young. My nature is to love nature. I accidentally fell into the trap of official career, and in the blink of an eye I had been away from my hometown for more than ten years. The bird in the cage often longs for the mountains and forests of the past, and the fish in the pond yearns for the abyss of the past. I would like to reclaim wasteland in the southern wilderness and maintain my simplicity to cultivate the countryside. There are more than ten acres of land around the house, and there are eight or nine thatched cottages.
Elm and willow trees cover the back eaves of the house, and peaches and plums vying for spring line up in front of the yard. Neighboring villages can be vaguely seen in the distance, and smoke is floating in the village. A few dogs barked in the deep alley, and a rooster crowed from the top of the mulberry tree. There is no dust and interference in the courtyard, and the quiet room is full of comfort and leisure. After being trapped in a cage for a long time without any freedom, I finally returned to Linshan today.
3. "Returning to the Garden and Living in the Fields·Part 2"
Wei and Jin Dynasties: Tao Yuanming
There are few people and things in the wild, and there are few martingales in the back streets.
The sun covers the thorns, and the empty room is empty of dust.
At that time, people came and went in the market, wearing grass.
When we meet, there are no words, but the road is long.
The days of mulberry and maize have been long, and the days of my soil have been broad.
I am often afraid of the frost coming, and the grass will be scattered and scattered.
Translation: When you live in the countryside, you rarely interact with the world, and there are few cars and horses traveling in remote alleys. During the day, the chai door is still closed, and the mind is pure and free from worldly thoughts. They often set foot in remote villages and clear away the grass to communicate with each other. When we meet, we don’t talk about worldly things, but talk about the growth of mulberry trees and hemp in the countryside. The mulberry trees in my field are growing taller and taller, and the land I am cultivating is getting wider and wider. I often worry that frost and snow will fall suddenly and crops will wither like grass.
4. "Drinking (Part 5)"
Wei and Jin Dynasties: Tao Yuanming
The house is in a human environment, without the noise of cars and horses.
How can you do this? The mind is far away from itself.
Picking chrysanthemums under the eastern fence, you can leisurely see the Nanshan Mountain.
The mountain air is getting better day by day, and the birds are flying back and forth.
There is a true meaning in this, but I have forgotten to explain it.
Translation: Living in the human world without the hustle and bustle of cars and horses. Ask me why? As long as your mind is high, you will naturally feel that the place you are in is secluded. Picking chrysanthemums under the east fence, leisurely, the Nanshan Mountain in the distance comes into view. The atmosphere in the mountains and the scenery in the evening are very good. There are birds flying back with their companions. This contains the true meaning of life. I want to identify it, but I don’t know how to express it.
5. "Returning to the Garden and Living in the Fields·Part 3"
Wei and Jin Dynasties: Tao Yuanming
Beans are planted at the foot of the southern mountain. The grass is full of bean sprouts and there are few bean sprouts.
In the morning, I clean up the wasteland and filth, and return with a hoe in the moonlight.
The road is narrow, the grass and trees are long, and the evening dew touches my clothes.
I don’t regret the stain on my clothes, but my wishes are fulfilled.
Translation: I plant beans at the foot of Nanshan Mountain. The weeds are lush and the bean sprouts are sparse. I get up early in the morning and go to the fields to weed weeds, and return home with a hoe under the moonlight at nightfall. The narrow mountain path was overgrown with vegetation, and my clothes were wet with night dew. It's not a pity that my clothes got wet, I just hope it doesn't go against my intention to return to the fields.
