Old pictures of Qianmen Arrow Tower and Zhengyangmen Arrow Tower, taken anonymously at 65438+ China Bookstore. Photo courtesy is based on protein paper in 1980s. This photo was taken from the east side wall of the front door from east to west. From left to right, the Qianmen Arrow Tower in the Republic of China was Zhengyangmen Arrow Tower, the East Gate Tower of Wengcheng, the West Gate Tower of Wengcheng, and the Qianmen Arrow Tower of Zhengyangmen Tower in the late Qing Dynasty. The Arrow Tower of Xi City Wall is built on the four gates of Xi City Wall.

The part of the outer side of the watchtower that is higher than the city wall is the eave wall of the watchtower. At the top of the eaves wall, a layer of brick eaves is flat at the junction with the square as a transitional decoration. The selected brick eaves are about 10 cm long. There are dense shear windows on the eaves outside the watchtower, which are used for defensive counterattack. The front arrow window * * * has four floors, each floor has 12, and there are 48 windows on the fourth floor. The gables on the left and right sides of the arrow tower are also brick walls, and there are no windows on the lower floor. There are three layers of arrow windows upstairs, three on each floor, nine on each side, a total of 18 on the left and right. So there are sixty-six holes in the three arrow windows of the whole watchtower.

The gables on the left and right side walls of the Arrow Tower have no windows on the lower floor, because the left and right walls are above the city wall. Considering that when the enemy attacks the city wall, the defenders can retreat into the arrow tower to resist. If there is a window under this wall, the position is too low from the ground and it is easy to be taken away by the enemy who attacked the wall.

Within the embrasured watchtower, * * * has four floors, corresponding to the outer four-story defense window. The internal floors are connected by stairs, so soldiers can climb directly to each floor and fight against the window. The windows on the outside of the watchtower allow the defenders to look out and fight back. Forty-eight windows, if crossbows are fired at the same time, the lethality will be great. There is a small wooden door on the arrow window, which can close the arrow guard when it is dangerous. There is an iron hook on the window and a window bolt behind the window, which can be bolted and fixed when closing the window.

Arrow Tower is a very scientific ancient military building. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, there were ancillary buildings on the walls on both sides of the Arrow Tower. Today, except for the west gate, there is destruction everywhere. Its distribution room is made of hard brick and wood structure, with three doors wide, doors and windows facing the city and colonnade. Facing the outside of the city, there are three high windows, which are very small. This distribution is like an enemy tower on a horse's face, which can strengthen the defense of the left and right corners of the urn.
