Climb high and miss the ancient oil for thousands of miles, but the willows in your eyes are like Jiangnan.

Interpretation: When Wan Li was climbing a tall building, homesickness came into being. In his eyes, water plants and willows are like Tingzhou in the south of the Yangtze River. Sunset rose from the clouds outside the pavilion, and strong winds blew all over the Xianyang Tower before the rain. At dusk, birds fly in the overgrown garden, and in late autumn, cicadas sing in the trees with dead leaves and branches. Passers-by don't ask about the past, only Weishui flows eastward as always.

This poem was written by Xu Hun in 849 AD (the third year of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty) when he was appointed as the imperial adviser. At this time, the Tang Dynasty was already in a stormy time, politics was very corrupt, and peasant uprisings broke out one after another. One autumn evening, the poet boarded the ancient building of Xianyang to enjoy the scenery and improvised this seven-tone song.
The whole poem is full of scenes and emotions in the scene. By describing the scenery, Xu Hun endowed abstract feelings with form, and at the same time showed rich life experience and profound thinking about history and reality. The scenery is beautiful and the feelings are sad, which means that the scenery is desolate, the territory is vast and lofty, and the spirit is exhausted.
