What shape is seabuckthorn?

There is a plant in the northwest wasteland. Its fruit tastes sour and slightly sweet, and its leaves are like willow leaves. People call it "sour willow" because it is covered with thorns, also called "black thorns". In fact, its name is seabuckthorn. Seabuckthorn is a deciduous shrub or small tree of Hippophae of Elaeagnus family, generally 3-5 meters high, with gray branches, strip-shaped to linear lanceolate leaves and silver gland scales on both sides. In spring, pale yellow flowers bloom first. After flowering, the leaves germinate and the trees are full of green in midsummer. In autumn, spherical or oval fruits, yellow or orange, are hidden in green leaves.

Small seabuckthorn fruit, but big pea, contains VC, VE, VA and other vitamins. Among them, the content of VC is 2 ~ 8 times that of kiwifruit, 20 times that of citrus and 400 ~ 800 times that of apple. Wild fruits, which were not well-known in the past, are now made into jam, fruit wine and juice and enter supermarkets. Pharmacists have studied Hippophae rhamnoides in many aspects, and found that flavonoids contained in its leaves and fruits can reduce myocardial oxygen consumption and blood lipid, and improve the function of human cardiovascular system. Now, seabuckthorn granules have been listed as adjuvant therapy and health care drugs for patients with cardiovascular diseases. After the astronauts of the former Soviet Union took seabuckthorn preparation, the weightlessness reaction was greatly reduced. After taking seabuckthorn preparation, China athletes' vital capacity, hemoglobin and heart rate increased by 4.2%, 4.35% and 4.36% respectively. In addition, seabuckthorn oil contained in the skin, pulp and kernel of seabuckthorn is very effective in treating burns, scalds, frostbite and various ulcers.

Seabuckthorn has strong adaptability. On gravel slopes or sandy land, it is shrub-like, some branches become thorns, and the hairs on the leaves become thicker, reducing water evaporation. In a place with good water and fertilizer conditions, it can also grow into a handsome tree. There is a Hippophae rhamnoides tree in Bosangcuo Lake area, Tibet, with a height of17m and a DBH of nearly 70cm. Is the king of seabuckthorn.

Hippophae rhamnoides root system is developed, with a root depth of 3-5 meters, a root width of 6- 10 meters and dense fiber roots, which can seal sand dunes and resist floods or heavy rains. There are many nodules on its roots, and its nitrogen fixation ability is not inferior to that of leguminous plants. One mu of seabuckthorn forest nitrogen fixation is equivalent to 50 mu of urea, like a small chemical fertilizer plant. Seabuckthorn branches stretch, and the fruit is thick and yellow. Some European countries regard it as a landscape tree species in urban gardens. France uses seabuckthorn leaves to help sick animals get rid of diseases and enhance their health. Romania uses them to make skin care cosmetics.

Seabuckthorn, as an excellent tree species for soil and water conservation, sand fixation and afforestation, as well as a medicinal and economic plant with broad prospects for development and utilization, is growing sturdily on the wasteland and has attracted more and more attention.
