Analysis:
Yong Yue - Xiang Ling sighs to herself
(1)
The essence covers all kinds of difficulties, and I realize that Chang'e is running to Guanghan.
A heart of ice has no place to go, and the fate of half a life is incomplete.
The green window is old and drunk and both listen to the flute, and the red tent is cold and leans on the railing again.
Bode Xiangling should ask himself, why is it so difficult to realize the dream of a full moon!
(2)
Ode to the Moon - Xiangling sighs (Qilu)
The journey is difficult in the cloudy sky and foggy sea, but the cold is better than the cold.
Where does a heart of ice go? Half a lifetime of love is incomplete.
I heard the flute for the first time under the old green window, and leaned against the railing again under the new coolness of the red tent.
I should take pity on myself and ask myself, is it difficult to realize the dream on earth and in heaven?
(3)
Looking at the moon - Xiangling sighs to herself (Qilu, Zaihe)
The journey is difficult in the cloudy sky and foggy sea, but the cold is better than the cold all over the body.
Where does a piece of ice go? The fate of half a life is ruined.
The old dream of the green window is beginning to fade, and the new couple in the red tent is leaning on the railing again.
I feel pity for myself and lament that there is no reunion on earth and in heaven!
Looking at the moon - Xiangling sighs to herself (Qilu, Zaihe)
The road through the clouds, mountains and fog is difficult, and the cold that penetrates the whole body is better than the cold in Guangzhou.
A piece of ice has nowhere to go, and the fate of half a life has been ruined.
Old dreams in the world of mortals are hard to find. Can new words with green sleeves lean on the railing?
I feel pity for myself and sigh, the moon is full but my concubine still cannot be full!
Xiangling's poetry study is an episode in "A Dream of Red Mansions", but in light of Xiangling's life experience, the description of this episode is a very ingenious arrangement by the author. Zhi Yanzhai has a penetrating analysis on this, saying: "If you think carefully about Xiang Ling's character, his foundation should not be exposed, his appearance should not be exposed, his elegance should not be allowed to be a hairpin, his romance should not be exposed to Xiang Dai, and his virtuousness should not be exposed. Ping, unfortunately, he suffered a misfortune when he was young and had a bad fate, so he was studying in the side room. He couldn't live in Haitang's house with Lin Xiang, so he wanted to be admitted to the garden. There is no way to get in, and we have been planning a lot. If we want to let Brother Dai travel far away to enter the garden, Xiang Ling is the earliest unlucky girl in the novel. She was abducted when she was a child, and was raped by Xue Pan, the overlord of Dai, when she was a teenager. She was bought as a concubine; later, when his wife Xia Jingui came, her fate became even worse, and she was soon tortured to death. In the last forty chapters, it is written that she died in childbirth, which is not in line with Cao Xueqin's original design. In the love list, Xiangling ranks first in the secondary list, which shows that she is a very important figure. The author writes about her studying poetry in order to improve her status and increase readers' favor for her. In this way, when she was tortured to death by a ruthless fate, the tragedy became even more intense.
Xiang Ling’s poetry learning can be roughly divided into three steps. The first is to worship Daiyu as a teacher and carefully appreciate Wang Wei's poems under Daiyu's guidance; the second is to read Du Fu's poems while trying to compose poems; the third is to experience two failures and finally succeed. The first poem written by Xiang Ling was relatively childish, with straightforward language. It was composed of words that were used by predecessors to chant the moon. The biggest problem is that the whole poem does not express true feelings and has no new ideas. The words "laurel", "jade mirror", "ice plate", etc. used in the poem are outdated, so Daiyu said that she was "tied by him", that is, she could not break out of the trap of her predecessors. Her second poem made some progress. She was able to use metaphors such as "flower fragrance" and "light frost", and used scenes such as "human traces" and "parting curtains" to set off her poems. She gradually relaxed her hands and feet. However, words such as "jade plate" and "jade column" still have an outdated flavor, and the whole poem is about the moonlight instead of the moon itself, which is a bit off-topic, so Daiyu said "this poem is too detailed." Xiang Ling's third poem is like this:
The essence wants to cover up the material, but the shadow is beautiful and the soul is cold.
A piece of anvil strikes a thousand miles of white, and half a chicken sings the fifth watch.
Listening to the flute on the green coir river in autumn, leaning on the railing at night on the head of the red-sleeved building.
Winning Chang'e should ask, why not reunite forever?
This poem is a success. Except for the first couplet, every sentence seems not to be written about the moon, but every sentence is related to the moon. The dictionary is elegant and subtle, and the design is novel and unique. In particular, the chin couplet is exquisite because of its stable antithesis and simple words but profound meaning. Its biggest advantage is that it is in line with Xiang Ling's own life experience, and it expresses true feelings by chanting the moon to cherish people. In this way, the poem is not empty but has content. Xiangling's success not only illustrates her own intelligence and elegance, but also illustrates a truth. In the forty-ninth chapter of the novel, everyone read what she said in her third poem: "Nothing is difficult, nothing is difficult." I’m just afraid of people with bad intentions.” In this way, it is more legitimate for Xiangling to live in the Grand View Garden, and it is natural for her to be the first person on the deputy list.
There are many poems in "A Dream of Red Mansions", which is one of the difficulties for today's readers. Many people have read it hastily, thinking that the author has no intention, which is a pity. The poems in the book are often integrated with the storyline. Everyone's poems have their own characteristics, expressing the different thoughts and personalities of different characters. Some poems also clarify the characters' situation and fate.
For example, in the third poem of Xiangling's poem quoted above, "the essence wants to cover up the truth but it is difficult to cover up the truth", it is actually talking about Xiangling's current situation. Therefore, carefully appreciating the poems in the book is one of the joys of appreciating "A Dream of Red Mansions".
Cao Xueqin borrowed Xiangling to learn poetry and expressed some of his views on poetry. He particularly emphasized that poetry should have new ideas, express feelings and interest, and should not harm the meaning with words. This is a clear and enlightened understanding. From the text, readers can also learn that the author prefers Tang poetry, such as Wang Wei, Du Fu, Li Bai, etc., who are all outstanding poets that Cao Xueqin likes.
When Xiangling wanted to learn poetry, she went to Daiyu instead of Baochai, which was next to her. This is also consistent with the novel. Baochai was knowledgeable and talented and wrote good poems, but she did not value this and believed that "a woman's lack of talent is a virtue." Moreover, Baochai was calm by nature and didn't like trivial matters that were too troublesome, so it was inconvenient for Xiangling to learn poetry from her. Although Daiyu is withdrawn by nature and likes to go away rather than get together, she also has a warm and generous side. She guided Xiang Ling tirelessly, followed instructions, and spoke concisely and concisely, so Xiang Ling was able to quickly understand the basics and achieve success. Daiyu's performance is a reflection of another aspect of her character. From a certain perspective, Daiyu is actually easier to get along with and more sympathetic to the weak than Baochai.
Other characters written in the text, such as Tanchun, Xiangyun, Baoyu, etc., are not mentioned much and are all foils. But the author's light touch of color also shows his spirit. For example, Xiangyun is talkative and Tanchun is astute, which is in line with their usual performance.
