Dinner for the blind 1903
With the full support of his father, Pablo Picasso, who enjoys the reputation of a child prodigy, entered Barcelona Art School in his early years and began a long artistic career. After moving to Paris, Picasso's painting style began to become melancholy and sad, and his characters were replaced by beggars, drunkards and prostitutes. The choice of these themes may reflect Picasso's embarrassing economic situation at that time. These monochrome works rendered in blue and cyan were completed between 190 1 and 1904, which is the famous Picasso blue period.
Actor 1904- 1905
Around 1904, Picasso's painting style changed from the melancholy style in the blue period to a more romantic theme, and red and orange were mostly used in painting. This period is also called the rose period. Tramps and laborers began to disappear from Picasso's canvas and were replaced by clowns and circus performers. The famous painting "The Actor" handed down from ancient times was completed in this period. Recently, an art student slipped and fell, tearing a crack 15 cm long in the lower right corner of the canvas, which damaged this famous painting. The restoration work took three months, and finally this Picasso rose period work caught up with this exhibition series of "Picasso in the Metropolitan Museum" in time.
In the sly rabbit bar 1905
Although Picasso used warm colors in his works in the Rose Period, some works in this period still exude a melancholy atmosphere, and In the Coward Rabbit Bar is one of his representative works. In this painting, Picasso depicts himself as a sad clown, wearing an orange-brown plain coat and drinking at the cunning rabbit bar, a famous bar near the Bohemian neighborhood of Montmartre in Paris. The girl next to Picasso in the painting is called Germaine Pishot, a notorious art model.
Self-portrait 1906
At the end of 1905, Picasso became interested in early sculpture art from Iberia Peninsula and Africa, and he began to try to use simplified geometric forms for artistic creation.
Gertrude stein en 1905- 1906
This is the first Picasso painting obtained by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which was bequeathed by gertrude stein himself in 1946. Gertrude stein is an American celebrity who has lived in Paris for most of her life. She is Picasso's close friend and main patron. This portrait is an example of Picasso's original style experiment.
Still life, a bottle of rum 19 1 1 year.
From 1902 to 19 12, Picasso created a series of works imitating the French impressionist painter Paul Cézanne, which used a lot of geometry, various angles and touching perspectives. Picasso cooperated with georges braque, breaking through the sense of space and beauty of traditional western styles in painting and sculpture, and laying a fundamental foundation for cubism.
Bottles and glasses on the table 19 12
Cubist artists oppose the view that art must imitate nature. Take this painting as an example. It was created in the most intense period of cubism movement, that is, the so-called "highly analytical cubism" period. Although Picasso fully emphasized the two-dimensional characteristics of canvas, he still depicted objects from multiple comparative angles.
Women in white 1923
After the First World War, Picasso began to return to neoclassical art, and his creative style gradually approached the western classical art of ancient Greece and Rome. This painting depicts a lady sitting peacefully with her arms crossed. This was created by Picasso's son Paul when he was two years old. The whole painting exudes a sense of maternal silence.
Dreamer 1932
This painting depicts naked Mary Teresa Walter taking a nap under the blue sky. Walter was Picasso's mistress from 1927 to 1935. Picasso took flowing lavender and blue as the theme, and divided the whole canvas into perfect color areas by using round and sweet curves and thick black outlines.
Doramar 1939 in the armchair
1936 Dora Mar met Picasso on the balcony of Gemini Cafe. In the following nine years, Dora became Picasso's lover and muse, and she was also an important figure who influenced the painter's life. The painter's use of strong colors such as blue, purple, green and composite colors, as well as rough line drawing, made this abstract painting famous all over the world.
The retrospective exhibition of Picasso at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York will last until August 1, 20 10.
