Wuzhen is located in Tongxiang, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province. It is located in the Golden Triangle of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, and in the hinterland of the Hangzhou-Jiaxing-Huzhou Plain. It is 60 kilometers away from Hangzhou and Suzhou and 106 kilometers away from Shanghai. It belongs to the Taihu Lake Basin water system, with rivers intertwining criss-cross, and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal passing through the town. Wuzhen was originally bounded by the Shihe River and divided into two towns: Wuqing Town. Wuzhen is to the west of the river and belongs to Wucheng County of Huzhou Prefecture; Qingzhen is to the east of the river and belongs to Tongxiang County of Jiaxing Prefecture. After liberation, Wuzhen west of Shihe River was placed under Tongxiang County and was collectively called Wuzhen.
