At that time, there was a man named Cao Qiusheng in Chu, who was eloquent and loved to make friends with powerful people. Jibu, a fellow countryman, looked down on him and expressed disgust in front of some friends. It happened that Cao Qiusheng heard that Lu Bu had become a big official again and wanted to curry favor with him. He specially asked Dou Changjun, a relative of the royal family, to write a letter to Lu Bu and introduce himself to him. Dou Changjun knew that Ji Bu had a bad impression on him and advised him not to see Ji Bu, so as not to cause trouble, but Cao Qiusheng insisted on Dou Changjun's introduction. Dou Changjun reluctantly wrote a letter of recommendation and sent it to Ji Bu.
Lu Bu was very unhappy after reading the letter, and was ready to teach him a lesson face to face when Cao Qiudao came. A few days later, Cao Qiusheng really came to visit. When Lu Bu saw Cao Qiusheng, he showed disgust. Cao Qiusheng didn't care about this. He bowed respectfully to Lu Bu first, and then said slowly, "We have a saying in Chu that it is better to get one hundred and twenty gold than to keep a promise.". How did you get such a high reputation? You and I are both Chu people, and now I spread your good reputation everywhere. Is this not good? Why don't you want to see me? "
Ji Bu felt that what Cao Qiusheng said was very reasonable. He immediately stopped hating him and treated him warmly, leaving him to live in the house for several months. When Cao Qiusheng left, he also gave him many gifts. Cao Qiusheng did as he said. Everywhere he went, he preached how kind and generous Lu Bu was. In this way, Lu Bu became more and more famous.
