Known as the "North American Continental Divide", the Rocky Mountains run through the center of the park from north to south. The park covers an area of 465,438+0,000 hectares. It was originally a part of the Bradford Indian reservation and was designated as a national park in 65,438+0,965,438+00. Because there are more than 50 glaciers here, it is named Glacier National Park. Glaciers are formed by a large amount of snow on high mountains condensed into huge ice bodies moving along the ground under the action of gravity. Steep longitudinal walls and angular shapes are the characteristics of glaciers. Glacier National Park is the largest glacier in Glacier National Park, covering an area of about 4.8 square kilometers. It is located on the northern slopes of Mount Jackson and Mount Boullefort, with an altitude of 2,440 meters. Harrison Glacier and Pompley Glacier cover the south slope. It is also famous for its picturesque peaks. Cleveland Mountain, more than 3000 meters above sea level in the north of the park, is the highest peak. There are Kyntera Peak, Sie Mountain and stimson Peak over 3000 meters in the park. The ridge here is like a sword, and the peaks denuded like pyramids by glaciers are covered with snow, which is particularly enchanting. The ground pressure distorts, cracks and tilts the rocks on the mountain peak, forming an incredible layered rock geometry. Each layer of rock forms a platform, which is often less than 1 m thick. Snowflakes are piled up on it, and the whole mountain peak is decorated with black and white striped flannel.
When the ice and snow melt, the steep valley around the peak presents a beautiful curve. Streams in the valley fly down from tens of meters high, sometimes splashing and sometimes being blown away by the wind. Some streams have sloping bottoms, just like a spiral staircase after an earthquake. The stream will descend step by step along this inclined rock formation, forming more than 250 lakes of different sizes. The most beautiful Lake Saint Mary is 16 km long and surrounded by mountains. MacDonald Lake, the largest lake, is about18km long with an average width of 2.5km. As one of the smallest lakes, Rapids Lake is located in the center of the scenic spot. Iceberg Lake, which is only 0.8km long, is located on the mountain at an altitude of 1.830m, and it is still frozen by snow and ice in hot weather. Avalanche basin, like a natural amphitheater, has a majestic and steep mountain, steep walls about 6 10 meters high, waterfalls hanging from the background canopy, red cedars dotted with mountains, and the sound of mountain springs makes the surrounding area more beautiful, which is a famous scene of the park. Glacier scenery in Glacier National Park
The glacier is 4 kilometers long and about 150 feet high. Park services provide two different viewing paths. One way is to take tourists to a place 300 meters high with a huge crane. At this time, huge glaciers seem to be in front of you, and some icebergs float by you. The front end of the glacier is extremely steep, and many cracks appear inside the glacier due to great pressure. Seen from a distance, the whole glacier has a dark blue tone. The second road is in the direction of the glacier, across a cliff. The service organization of the park has set up several sidewalks in this area, so that you can enjoy the magnificent scenery of different places. The greater advantage of the sidewalk is that visitors can observe the scenery at the bottom of the glacier and be as close to the front of the glacier as possible. Unfortunately, over the years, several tourists have died because of the collapse of ice and the huge air billow it produced.
The magic of glaciers is that they change endlessly. Glaciers move about 30 centimeters a day on average, which doesn't sound too far. Even snails in the yard won't waste too much time walking such a long distance. However, after ten minutes of observation, you will hear a loud noise, and then an ice cube the size of a car falls into the sea. After an hour of continuous observation, it is very likely that a huge block of ice the size of a house will fall. Icebergs can usually drift downstream for miles before melting. Few world cultural heritages can be "moved", they just "exist", but Glacier National Park is an exception.
