Ancient poems describing rivers

1. Original text: Tianmen interrupts the opening of Chujiang River, and the clear water flows eastward to this point. The green mountains on both sides of the strait stand out from each other, and a solitary sail comes from the sun.

From: "Looking at Tianmen Mountain" by Li Bai of the Tang Dynasty

Interpretation: The Yangtze River is like a giant ax splitting open the majestic Tianmen Peak, and the green river water flows eastward and swirls here. The beautiful scenery of the green mountains on both sides of the Taiwan Strait is indistinguishable, and you can see a solitary boat coming from the horizon.

2. Original text: The Han River flows back thousands of miles and is sent as a Nine Dragon Pan. He defeated China and Cui Wei flew swiftly. After the fall of the Six Emperors, Sanwu was insignificant. I, the king, am in chaos, and the public is in peace. Today I am the young master, and I will stop fishing in Canglang.

From: "Jinling Looking at the Han River" by Li Bai of the Tang Dynasty

Interpretation: The Yangtze River stretches and twists and turns for thousands of miles, and is divided into nine tributaries, just like nine giant dragons entrenched. The river overflows and floods China, its waves are turbulent and rapid. After the six generations of emperors fell into silence, Sanwu has lost its former glory and cannot be praised. I worship the Holy Ming King to unify the world, I hang my clothes and hand over my hands and do nothing. Today's Mr. Ren no longer needs to go fishing in the sea and stop fishing.

3. Original text: The clouds in the pillow are close to thousands of peaks, and the sound of pine trees under the bed is mournful. If you want to see Yinshan Mountain and waves in the sky, open the window and let yourself in to the big river.

From: Song Dynasty Zeng Gongliang's "Sleep in the Monk's House at Ganlu Temple"

Interpretation: The bed pillow is filled with clouds, making me feel like sleeping on a thousand peaks; bursts of pines and waves rise from thousands of peaks. The sound came, as if it was roaring under my bed. I couldn't help but want to see the waves rushing past as high as mountains. As soon as I opened the window, the rolling Yangtze River seemed to rush into my window bars.

4. Original text: It only takes a moment to pour down the Milky Way, and it only takes a moment to stir up the turbid waves in the sky. There are more winds and dangers in the world, and talking about the Yellow River is a daunting journey.

From: "Crossing the Yellow River" by Song Wan of the Ming Dynasty

Interpretation: It is often heard that the Milky Way is pouring down. It is difficult to tell whether it is true or not. The Yellow River we see now suddenly becomes turbid. Shake the sky. The storms in the world are much more dangerous than this, but people say that the only dangerous path is in the middle of the Yellow River.

5. Original text: On a bright moonlit night along the Yellow River, the cold sand looks like a battlefield. The rushing water makes a roaring sound, and the plains reach the wilderness. Wu Hui's book is difficult to reach, and the road to Yantai is long. Men are rarely guests and do not recognize that they are in a foreign country.

From: "Night Mooring on the Yellow River" by Li Liufang of the Ming Dynasty

Explanation: The Yellow River lies horizontally under the moonlight, and the yellow sand is like a battlefield under the moonlight. The roaring torrent is endless, and the wilderness stretches into the endless distance. It is difficult to send letters to the distant Kuaiji, and the road to Yantai is still long. After wandering around for so many years, I no longer feel like I am a guest in a foreign land.
