The author of this poem is Su Shi, a poet, ci writers and writer in the Northern Song Dynasty. He is known as one of the "Eight Masters of Tang and Song Dynasties" Dongpo lay man, and later generations often call him "Su Dongpo". In the preface of this poem, he wrote that he "knows nothing about chess", but his son Su Guo can play Go. His friend Zhong Zhang often goes to his house to play chess with his son, and Dongpo is a spectator. He is not tired of watching it all day.
The poet used a rare allusion here. From The Book of Rites: There are two things outdoors. If you speak, you will enter. Don't talk, don't go in. Fishing with an empty hook is fishing with carp. Fishing without bait, the fisherman's original intention is not fish, but the pleasure of fishing. Playing chess with Bai Juyi's Mountain Monk, the bamboo shadow on the chessboard is clear. No one can see bamboo, but when I hear the child's voice, "it is in harmony with the artistic conception expressed in this poem."
