Li Bai's "Killing Like a Hemp": Poet's Killing Poems and Chivalrous Dream

This is the last paragraph of Li Bai's poem Difficult Shu Dao, which means that the sword gate in Shu Dao is very dangerous. If the officials stationed here are not trustworthy, they will occupy this favorable terrain and plot rebellion. And in this place, we have to watch out for tigers and poisonous snakes all day. They kill people like hemp, and their teeth are sharp and sharp, which makes people shudder. Although Chengdu is a paradise, let's go home early, because the Shu Road is too difficult to walk, and it's even harder than going to heaven!

Li Bai used the idiom "killing people like hemp" in his poems, saying that the wicked beasts on the Shu Road were terrible. Here, the "murderer" is absolutely what Li Bai fears and hates.

But for some "killers", Li appreciates and even worships them. If you don't believe me, please read his White Horse:

In the poem, there is a king of Wuling who is appreciated by the emperor and praised for his kung fu and pampering himself. He likes to travel around with those chivalrous men, drink and dance knives, and kill bad people like weeding. When the border was in danger, he signed up to join the army, killed the enemy heroically on the battlefield and made meritorious military service repeatedly. After the triumphant return, he did not cling to the powerful, did not retire from the Jianghu, and his heroism and narrow-mindedness did not diminish.

In fact, Li Bai wanted to be such a chivalrous man when he was young.

As a teenager, Li Bai began his dream of chivalry. When he was a teenager studying in a big mine, he became interested in fencing. At the age of eighteen, Li Bai took Zhao Kun, the hermit of Pingshan, the governor of Zitong, as his teacher. He not only learned Taoism and vertical and horizontal techniques, but also specialized in fencing.

After that, Li Bai began to hold a sword. When you meet heroes in the Jianghu, make as many friends as possible. "Golden steed, brocade takes Longquan." Riding a golden steed, wearing Longquan sword all day, he is a charming teenager with infinite scenery.

In the 12th year of Kaiyuan (724), Li Bai, who was twenty years old, wanted to leave Shu, so he naturally took his sword with him when he left-"Take the sword to the countryside and leave his relatives for a long journey".

The roaming trip is definitely not smooth sailing. In Shu, Li Bai met Wu Guide, a fellow traveler, and they went down the river together, taking care of each other and enjoying the scenery along the way, which can be described as congenial. Unexpectedly, after arriving in Dongting, Wu Zhidao suddenly became seriously ill and died. For this reason, Li Bai is very sad. After staying beside his friend's body for a few days, he buried it sadly. After a while, Li Bai felt that it was a bit hasty to bury his friend at that time, so he made a special trip to rebury. This is another story.

Li Bai followed the Yangtze River and soon came to Jinling and then to Yangzhou. In Yangzhou, a world of flowers and flowers, Li Bai fully demonstrated his heroic side, enjoying himself and making friends. In less than a year, he spent more than 300 thousand, so that he was finally embarrassed and down.

In Anlu, Li Bai got married. However, after marriage, Li Bai still retains the spirit of Ren Xia. He doesn't make a fuss or make any noise. It seems that he is sorry for his name-there is no "white" sound, no "white" sound.

In the 18th year of Kaiyuan (730), Li Bai came to the capital Chang 'an. The song "White Horse" quoted at the beginning was written by Li Bai after he came to Chang 'an this time.

In Beijing, Li Bai probably hoped that he could get the appreciation of the emperor through cockfighting, like the Wuling hawker in the poem, and then join the army to defend the border and make contributions. So, he started fighting cocks with those punks in the city.

Fighting, the two sides have a contradiction. On that day, the contradiction finally intensified, and Li Bai and the gangster fought. Although Li Bai has a sword, there are many people on the other side, most of whom are fugitives. They surrounded Li Bai with sticks, kitchen knives, stones or other deadly weapons.

The learned swordsmanship seems useless. Seeing Li Bai will be disastrous. Fortunately, the buddy named Lu Diao called the official in charge of public security in time, and Li Bai finally survived.

Three years later, Li Bai came to Xiangyang, where he wrote a letter to Han Chaozong, Jingzhou Changshi and Xiangzhou Secretariat, hoping to get an interview and introduction, but failed to do so. Therefore, Li Bai was very depressed. The following year, he wrote a poem for his cousin Li Hao, who was a county magistrate in Xiangyang. The main purpose of writing poetry is to ask for help. Before asking for help, he did not forget to talk about his "past courage":

In the poem, I said that I like to make friends with people who are brave and help others without asking for anything in return. Because I can do anything for my friends. I have killed people.

Of course, killing people should be a fight. If he really dies, it is estimated that Li Bai dare not be so frank.

Despite hitting the wall again and again and encountering setbacks again and again, although "there is no food to eat, there is no food to eat, and it is futile to draw a sword", Li Bai's dream of a chivalrous man never seems to be shattered.

Li Bai and Du Fu met and roamed Qilu together. In Jizhou (now Jinan), Li Bai began to regain his chivalrous dream, and specially wrote the first "Chivalrous Journey":

Li Bai imagined the chivalrous men's hats and Wu Gou swords on the land of Zhao Yan, their white horses and silver saddles on horseback, their steeds flying like meteors, their superb killing skills, and their freedom of coming and going, without attachments and mystery.

How he longs to have such a happy life, but the dream is a dream after all, and what he has to face every day is the present reality, the chaotic world and complicated people. And the human heart is sometimes the most deadly weapon, as Li Bai himself said:
