Creative background
In the seventh year of Emperor Wenzong's reign (834), Li Shangyin failed the exam and went to his cousin Cui Rong, who was the governor of Huazhou at the time. The next year, Cui Rong was transferred to Yanzhou as the observation envoy. Unexpectedly, he died of illness just after arriving in Yanzhou. Cui Rong not only felt kinship with Li Shangyin, but also had the kindness to meet him. Cui Rong's two sons Cui Yong, Cui Gun and Li Shangyin also have deep love and loyalty.
This poem was dated to the eighth year of the reign of Emperor Wenzong of the Tang Dynasty (835). At that time, Li Shangyin left the Cui family and stayed in the garden pavilion of the Luo family. In the loneliness, he missed his two cousins ??Cui Yong and Cui Gun, and wrote this very sentimental poem.
