The origin of Tongcheng school's name

Tongcheng School was named after the region, mainly because its early important writers were all Tongcheng people. However, in the early development of Tongcheng School, the name Tongcheng School was not clearly used. Among the "four ancestors" of Tongcheng School, the former "three ancestors" Dai Mingshi, Fang Bao and Liu Dakui never claimed that "all articles in the world are in Tongcheng". Although Yao Nai quoted Cheng Jinfang and Zhou Yongnian in the preface to Mr. Eighty Birthday, "There was a good assistant minister before, and now there is Mr. Liu. Are all the articles in Tongcheng? " It was Zeng Guofan who officially played the banner of Tongcheng School during Daoguang and Xianfeng years. In the preface to Ouyang, he praised Fang, Liu and Yao Shan as ancient Chinese words, and said, "Mr. Yao is good at brushwork. Zhou Yongnian, a calligrapher in Licheng, said,' Where are all the articles in Tongcheng?' Therefore, many scholars turned to Tongcheng, that is, Tongcheng School. Since then, "Tongcheng School" named after Tongcheng area came into being.

Tongcheng is called "the capital of culture" mainly because of the great influence of Tongcheng School in Qing Dynasty.

Tongcheng School, with its perfect theoretical system, distinctive creative features, numerous writers and rich works, dominated the literary world of the Qing Dynasty for more than 200 years and had a wide and far-reaching influence at home and abroad.

Although the writers of Tongcheng School are not all Tongcheng people, such as Mei Zengliang, Guan Tong, Zeng Guofan, Zhang Yuzhao and Lin Shu. Tongcheng writers still account for a large proportion, including Fang, Dai Equilibrium, Liu Kai, Fang Zongcheng, Ma Qichang and Yao Yongpu.
