The History of Duxiufeng in Guilin

In the mid-1980s, cultural relics workers in Guilin conducted a comprehensive investigation and clean-up of the Duxiufeng stone carving, and found a cliff stone carving that has been unknown since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, with the words "Guilin's landscape is the best in the world" engraved verbatim. The author is Wang, a native of Siming (now Ningbo, Zhejiang Province). He served as the magistrate of Jingjiang in Guangxi prison during Qingyuan and Jiatai years in the Southern Song Dynasty, thus ending the endless debate for a hundred years. Wang's poems highlight the beauty of Guilin's mountains, waters, caves and rocks, and establish Guilin's position as a scenic tourist city in China and even the world.

Duxiufeng is one of the main peaks in Guilin, with a relative height of 66 meters. It is composed of limestone biochemically deposited in shallow sea 350 million years ago. There are mainly three groups of almost vertical cracks cut from the top of the mountain to the bottom of the mountain, and through the action of water flow, solitary peaks without slopes and hills are formed. Duxiu Mountain is flat and round, wide from east to west, majestic, narrow from north to south, steep and beautiful, and has the reputation of "Southern Tianzhu". There are Xuanwu Pavilion, Kannonji, Sanke Temple and Sanmiao Temple. On the mountain, there is a crescent pond at the foot of the mountain. Morning light and sunset glow, covered with the brilliance of the sun, look like a king with a purple robe and jade belt, so they are also called "Purple Mountain". Yan Yanzhi's poems of the Southern Dynasties and the Song Dynasty, "Those who are not outstanding are in the city"; In the Tang Dynasty, Zhang Gu's poem said that "the lonely peak is not harmonious with many mountains and never stops rising". All highlight its momentum.
