Where do swallows go for the winter?

Swallows go to the equator or even the southern hemisphere for winter. When autumn is getting stronger, swallows will gradually gather in large groups and take their children south in the strong north wind. Most domestic swallows in China will migrate all the way south and arrive in Southeast Asia, Australia and other places for the winter. Some domestic swallows even flew to South Africa.

A few domestic swallows will stay in southern Yunnan, Hainan Island and Taiwan Province Province for the winter, so swallows can still be seen in some places in southern China in winter.

Beijing Swift, which lives in North China and Northeast China, comes to the breeding ground in late April every year and disappears from the end of July to the beginning of August. According to scientific records from all over the world, bird experts found that Beijing Swift goes to Africa for the winter every winter.

Factors affecting migratory birds' migration

1. Climate: In tropical and subtropical areas with lower latitudes, there are fewer migratory birds and more resident birds, while in middle and high latitudes, there are more migratory birds and fewer resident birds. The main reason is that the climate change in low latitudes is small and the annual climate index is relatively stable; However, in the middle and high latitudes, the seasonal climate changes greatly.

2. Temperature: Temperature not only affects birds' own feelings, but also affects birds' food sources. When the temperature drops in high latitudes, birds will migrate with it. Due to the influence of topography and other factors, some areas in the middle and high latitudes will maintain relatively high temperatures, and migratory birds living here may become resident birds.

3. Sunshine time: Every year, a considerable number of migratory birds begin to migrate very stably. According to indoor experiments, this is related to sunshine time. When the sunshine time reaches a certain length or shorter, it will trigger some reaction mechanism in birds and induce their migration behavior.

4. Food: The food condition is an important factor affecting bird migration. Some scholars believe that because birds are warm-blooded animals, they are not sensitive to the change of environmental temperature, so the influence of temperature on bird migration is mainly realized through food. The drop in temperature not only stops the food itself, but also greatly limits the foraging activities of birds, which is a factor that forces birds to start migrating.
