Appreciation of the Five Character Couplets of "Zheng Wengong's Lower Stele" in Zeng Xi's Collection of Books 2007-
This is my favorite couplet that combines the words "Zheng Wengong's Monument".
At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, the study of stele flourished, and there was no shortage of people who studied the "Stele of Zheng Wengong". In the title of this couplet, Zeng Xi believes that the writing and knotting of "Zheng Bei" are solemn, quiet, and reserved, and are full of temple atmosphere ("Zheng Wengong Bei" is like a muni sitting with shoulders level and hands in hand, looking up) cannot be seen). In the process of creating this collection of calligraphy couplets, Zeng Xi grasped the brushwork and structure of the original stele quite accurately, which can be said to have captured the essence of this stele. All reflect the author's deep understanding of "Zheng Bei" and his own unique aesthetic thoughts. It can be seen that "Zheng Stele" had a considerable influence on the two masters of stele studies, Zeng Xi and Li Ruiqing.
At the same time, Zeng Xi spoke highly of both Li Ruiqing and Li Jian in the title.
Zeng Xi: Born in 1861 and died in 1930. His courtesy names were Siyuan, Ziji and Jizi, his nicknames were Qiyuan and Nongbeard, and he was a native of Hengyang, Hunan. He became a Jinshi in the 29th year of Guangxu's reign in the Qing Dynasty, and later taught at Shigu Academy. Together with Li Ruiqing, he was known as "Northern Li Nanzeng". His calligraphy is based on the "Xia Cheng Stele", "Huashan Stele", "Zhang Heinv's Epitaph", etc. He mainly uses round pens to connect the south and north steles, integrating the square and the circle, forming a wide, sparse and elegant calligraphy style, and his regular script is quite unique. The seal writing style has its own appearance. He started selling calligraphy in Shanghai in 1915. His calligraphy works include Xia Chengbei and Zhang Heisui. He is as famous as Li Ruiqing and is also known as "Zeng Li".
Interpretation of the collection: From the perspective of others, only the righteousness is in harmony.
Inscription: The stele of Zheng Wengong is like a muni sitting on its back, with shoulders level and hands in hand, unable to be seen. The ten-finger Taoist was trapped in this situation for decades, and later he entered it with the pen of Ding Yi. His character and character are so beautiful that he is higher than the original stone. Scholars at home and abroad all have a copy of this book. He really abides by the rules and can pass on the mantle, but his nephew Zhong Qianer is the only one. Just one person. In the early autumn of Xinyou, Zeng Xi.
