Sports legend Liu Yongfu has been a coach for 22 years. He led his disciples to win four consecutive Olympic Games, and also won more than ten world champions and nearly 30 Asian champions. For some time, sports researchers, especially foreign sports research institutions, have been studying Liu Yongfu's training methods to seek the mystery of Liu Yongfu's disciples winning the championship. Japanese judo circles even studied the videos of Olympic champions Li Zhongyun, Zhuang Xiaoyan, Sun Fuming and Yuan Hua, trying to find out the rules, but all four people's movements were quadruple, which made the Japanese disappointed.
Liu Yongfu believes that although judo was introduced to the world as an Olympic event, it is similar to wrestling in China in many aspects. The essentials and winning methods of judo can be learned from China's traditional wrestling. Therefore, Liu Yongfu, a wrestler, quoted more Chinese wrestling methods in his training and teaching. He is meticulous in his movements, and at the same time, he constantly explores the method of combining Chinese wrestling with judo techniques, and finally succeeds.
While others were studying Liu Yongfu, Liu Yongfu kept thinking about his teaching methods. Judo draws lessons from Chinese wrestling, so do other traditional cultures have an influence on judo? He has been eyeing calligraphy since 1993. Liu Yongfu went to Beijing for the Olympic Games. After the training, he wrote several meditations. As a result, he found that practicing calligraphy was very helpful to his teaching.
Liu Yongfu knows that keeping calm in every game is a necessary prerequisite for a coach and an athlete to achieve good results. He can calm down by practicing his own handwriting. Why not let his disciples practice calligraphy? So he bought pens, ink, paper, inkstones and copybooks and distributed them to his disciples, asking them to write one or two small words every day after training.
At first, the disciples didn't know much about it, but after a long time, they realized the help of practicing Chinese characters to judo. Yuan Hua said that practicing calligraphy can not only mediate one's emotions, but also calm oneself down after intense and intensive training. You can also appreciate the use of Chinese wrestling skills and judo skills from the strokes, connections and transitions of calligraphy.
In this way, day after day, year after year, Liu Yongfu's disciples kept learning books and reaped more and more benefits. Sun Fuming and Yuan Hua won Olympic gold medals in succession.
Although remarkable achievements have been made, Liu Yongfu is not satisfied. He thinks it is right to use excellent traditional culture to guide training, but he also thinks that calligraphy is not deep enough and he must invest in another famous teacher. So he chose Moxilong, a famous calligrapher, as his teacher, to guide his training with calligraphy and strive to win more honors for his motherland.
