Wang Xianzhi (344-386), courtesy name Zijing, also known as an official slave, was of Han nationality. His ancestral home was Langya Linyi (now Linyi, Shandong) and he was born in Shanyin, Kuaiji (now Shaoxing, Zhejiang). A famous calligrapher, poet, and painter in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, he was the seventh son of the calligraphy sage Wang Xizhi and the son-in-law of Sima Yu, the emperor of the Jin Dynasty. When he reached Zhongshu Ling, he was called "Da Ling" to distinguish him from his younger brother Wang Min, and he was called "Two Kings" together with his father Wang Xizhi. Together with Zhang Zhi, Zhong Yao and Wang Xizhi, he is known as the "Four Sages in the Book". Wang Xianzhi has been smart and studious since he was a child. He specializes in calligraphy in cursive script and is also good at painting. He practiced calligraphy with his father since he was a child, and he had great ambitions. Later, he also learned from Zhang Zhi and created his own calligraphy. He is famous for his running script and cursive script, but he also has profound skills in regular script and official script. Wang Xianzhi was also good at painting, and Zhang Yanyuan rated his paintings as "low-middle grade" in "Records of Famous Paintings of the Past Dynasties".
