Wu Zhangshu's Personality Evaluation

Unlike most calligraphers, Wu Zhangshu did not go through the systematic learning process from copying to creation, but only "cared" for the works of ancient masters and learned from others. His method of learning books is rare among ancient and modern calligraphers. By his own admission, Wu Zhangshu has never written a day's tablet with a pen, unlike other calligraphers who have decades of experience in Linchi.

Wu Zhangshu learned calligraphy mainly by "reading", and assimilated it into his own pen and ink language with his extraordinary memory, profound knowledge and broad mind. At first glance, his calligraphy is unremarkable, but after a long time, it has a long charm, simple and dignified style, profound connotation, sparse and refined, elegant and interesting, full of rich literati atmosphere.

Wu Zhangshu has always attached importance to calligraphy. He said that ancient prose and ink are also called, which shows the blood relationship between writing and calligraphy. At the same time, he thinks that calligraphy should be free from vulgarity, affectation, carving, arrogance, stability, charm, charm, anger, hegemony and vulgarity; People's elegant words are elegant, people's vulgar words are vulgar and people's stubborn words are stubborn, just like other arts: writing is like people, poetry is like people, and so is calligraphy. This is exactly what Wu Zhangshu's calligraphy pursues, a wonderful state of returning to nature and the unity of man and nature.
