Bury me on a high mountain, looking at my hometown; my hometown is invisible and can never be forgotten. Bury me on a high mountain, and look at the mainland; the mainland is invisible, and I can only cry bitterly. The sky is blue and the fields are vast; on the mountains, the country is in mourning.
The famous patriotic poem "Looking at the Mainland" published by Mr. Yu Youren, a veteran of the Chinese Kuomintang, more than 40 years ago.
Yu Youren wrote more than 900 poems in his life, passionately praising the patriots and soldiers who defended against the enemy, and the magnificent rivers and mountains of the motherland. He was a famous patriotic poet; his "Yu Ti" calligraphy art is even more outstanding. A dazzling monument. His character and calligraphy skills were deeply respected by the Chinese people. Premier Zhou Enlai once commented that he was "an upright man with national integrity."
In his later years, Mr. Yu Youren longed for the leaves to return to his roots and people to return to their hometown, but he ultimately failed to do so.
