In 1956, Beiyuan Restaurant implemented a public-private partnership. The then mayor of Guangzhou, Mr. Zhu Guang, personally visited Beiyuan Restaurant and proposed an expansion plan. In 1957, the state invested and renovated it, and it was carefully designed by the famous construction engineer Mo Bozhi (now a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Academy of Architecture). The Beiyuan was expanded into the first garden restaurant in Guangzhou that was antique and full of Lingnan garden characteristics. Mayor Zhu Guang also wrote the Beiyuan sign for the restaurant. The restaurant has won praises from diners for its excellent cooking techniques, Lingnan-style cuisine and good service. In July 1964, the famous Japanese Buddhist master and calligrapher Tianmen Kaiwen impromptu wrote a peace and friendship banner as a gift. On July 14 of the same year, the famous writer Guo Moruo went abroad to visit Vietnam. He drank morning tea in a restaurant and gave him a poem. Drinking morning tea in Beiyuan made it feel as if he was at home. He went abroad in an instant and drank tea again when he came back. When the art master Liu Haisu was 87 years old, he once had a banquet here and extemporaneously used the word "infinity" to express his taste. Shang Chengzuo, a famous professor at Sun Yat-sen University, sent a letter of taste to express his evaluation of the dishes. Beiyuan Restaurant has made great efforts to maintain the architectural style of Lingnan gardens. There are also a large number of dishes that have won awards in international and domestic cooking.
In 1993, it was awarded the title of Chinese Time-honored Brand by the Ministry of Domestic Trade;
In 1998, it was approved by the Domestic Trade Bureau as a national premium restaurant.
