Zhang Ruitu once attached himself to Wei Zhongxian and wrote a memorial tablet for him. Therefore, he has been underestimated by the world for a long time. Zhang Ruitu is good at poetry, writing and painting. The landscape painting is modeled after Huang Gongwang, with strong bones and elegant touches; he is also good at painting Buddha statues. He is especially famous for his calligraphy, and together with Dong Qichang, Xing Dong and Mi Wanzhong, he is known as one of the "Four Great Masters of the Late Ming Dynasty".
