Shenyuan Garden was founded in the Southern Song Dynasty. Shenyuan covers an area of more than 70 mu. Because the original owner surnamed Shen, but the specific name has not been verified, it is called "Shen's Garden".
In A.D. 1 15 1, Lu You and Tang Wan reunited in Shenyuan and became a hairpin. Around AD 1 199, Lu You visited Shenyuan again and wrote two poems, Shenyuan. In AD 1205, Lu You visited Shen Garden at night and wrote "Visit Shen Shi Pavilion Garden at night on December 2nd".
In March 1963, 1 1, Shenyuan was announced by the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government as the second batch of key cultural relics protection units in Zhejiang Province. 1985, in order to restore the Shenyuan Garden, the 7.2-mu old site on the west side was excavated, and ancient wells in the Six Dynasties, buildings in the Tang and Song Dynasties, pools in the Ming Dynasty, tiles, dripping water, ridges and lake stones were found.
After two expansions (1987 and 1994), the whole park area was restored to 18.5 mu. In the park, new Song-like buildings such as Shibeifang, Lengcui Pavilion, Jingting Pavilion of Six Dynasties, Bayang Building, Guhexuan, Shuangguitang, Xianyun Pavilion, Banbi Pavilion and Fangweng Bridge were built, rockeries were built, peaches, plums and bamboos were planted, the inscription was rebuilt, and the word "Feng" was engraved again, so that the old park reappeared.
In May, 20001year, a new scene was added to Shenyuan, including more than ten scenic spots such as Luyou Memorial Hall, Lilian Garden and Lover Garden, covering an area of 57 mu.
Now in Shaoxing Shenyuan, the lyrics of Lotus Head and Phoenix have been restored.
