The test cabin environment of Mars -500

The 520-day simulated flight was actually spent in a 550 cubic meter simulated test cabin.

The test module consists of medical module, living module, public activity module, Mars landing module simulator and light inflatable Mars surface simulation module. There is a single bedroom, kitchen and dining room, living room, bathroom, gym, bathroom, vegetable shed and so on, where Wang Yue will conduct scientific research and daily life.

During the whole flight, he flew to Mars in the first 250 days, landed on Mars in the middle 30 days and returned to Earth in the last 240 days. Wang Yue and other volunteers simulated the whole process of flying to Mars, circling Mars, landing and returning to Earth.

When landing on Mars, six volunteers were divided into two groups with three people in each group.

After the first crew landed on the surface of Mars, the hatch between the Mars simulation module and other facilities was immediately closed by the second group of volunteers, and it was not reopened until the end of the Mars landing simulation process. As for whether Wang Yue can leave the cabin, it is still inconclusive.

Wang Yue can only communicate face to face with five other volunteers and communicate with family and friends through a simulation control center. In order to simulate the real flight state, the call with the outside world is also set with a time lag of 20 minutes, and a message goes back and forth for 40 minutes. Of course, the most important way of external communication is e-mail on the local area network. My own space is only 3.4 square meters, including a bed, a table and storage space under the bed. This is a private space, and there are no surveillance cameras.

Volunteers can bring some personal equipment. Wang Yue's personal belongings in the cabin include the national flag, diary, video camera, camera and so on. Considering his love for literature, history and music, China Astronaut Research and Training Center also bought a large number of books, songs and movies and made them into CDs for his leisure time. Some of them are traditional opera crosstalk with China characteristics. Wang Yue usually likes Peking Opera and calligraphy. He specially prepared a brush and copybook. I wonder if he can take it into the cabin. He plans to teach foreign volunteers to practice calligraphy together and introduce them to the essence of China traditional culture.

Volunteers' food is prepared according to the standards of the International Space Station. After scientific and accurate measurement, it is stored in the storage cabin without replenishment. The food is mainly dehydrated food and canned food, and some vegetables can also be picked from the greenhouse for dinner. Wang Yue, who is used to Chinese food, may not be used to such food at first. Fortunately, during the return phase of the Mars flight, China space food will appear on the dining table, which may improve the taste. However, space food is not only edible, but also has a standard nutritional mix for every meal. After meals, the ratio of salt intake and discharge of volunteers was calculated by urine test.

Wang Yue has to work five days a week, take two days off, and take turns working the night shift with everyone. In the simulated cabin, he can go to a special fitness room for physical exercise, which is very important for maintaining a good physical and mental state in a closed environment for a long time. In his spare time, he can also read and study, play poker for recreation, write a flight log and see how the vegetables in the greenhouse grow. Of course, like the real Mars flight, the Internet and TV do not exist, and drinking and smoking are not allowed.

A long-term isolated environment will inevitably make people homesick. Experts from China Astronaut Center specially designed psychological and cultural support programs to celebrate the Spring Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival and Wang Yue's birthday. At that time, Wang Yue can talk with his family and friends, and he is also expected to see his hometown and motherland pay attention to his various reports and greetings.

Wang Yue, who is versatile, also brought China's unique window grilles into the cabin. The pattern is "Mars500" and the figure of tiger and rabbit, which symbolizes that the experiment spans the year of tiger and rabbit. He intends to teach foreign volunteers to cut window grilles during the Spring Festival. As for whether I will feel lonely after a long time, Wang Yue said: "While completing the experimental task, I will also exchange language and culture with volunteers from other countries to strengthen the integration of Chinese and Western cultures. Maybe I have mastered two more languages after completing the task! "
