Fang Rui’s introduction

Fang Rui’s real name is Deng Zesheng, a native of Huaining, Anhui. He is the great-granddaughter of Deng Shiru, a famous calligrapher in the Qing Dynasty. Because his mother was a descendant of Fang Bao, a Qing Dynasty essayist, he was also named Fang Rui. She was self-study at home since she was a child and did not go to university. However, she has a high level of cultural literacy and has high attainments in calligraphy and painting. In March 1940, she retreated to the rear and went to Jiang'an County, Sichuan to join her sister Deng Wansheng and her cousin Fang Guande who were studying at the National Nanjing Theater School. She lives in her sister's dormitory, which is right across from Cao Yu's residence. She had read Cao Yu's scripts a long time ago and admired him very much. Especially when I heard that Cao Yu graduated from the English Department of Tsinghua University, I wanted to ask Cao Yu to guide her in learning English. In this way, Deng Wansheng and Fang Guande took her to visit Cao Yu.
