Chen Xianzhang’s calligraphy achievements

Chen Baisha is an outstanding calligrapher. His calligraphy is based on Ouyang Xun. Later, he learned Huaisu cursive calligraphy, and also combined the styles of Mi and Su. They all use brushes, and their famous "Big Head Shrimp Theory" calligraphy vertical scrolls are handed down from generation to generation. One is to write with a calligraphy brush. Later, because it is not easy to buy a brush in the hometown, I use local materials and use the mountain grass heart as a brush to create a Mao brush. "Where I live in Guifeng, there are many grasses growing on the stone. They are white and vigorous in color. They use the heart of the grass as a pen, and their characters are simple and wild. The white sand is called Maojun, also known as Maolong." (Qu Dajun, "Guangdong News"). In his later years, he liked to use Mao brush to write calligraphy. His strokes were strong and majestic, and he was sometimes called "Mao brush calligraphy". Chen Baisha wrote a poem: "Mao Jun is very practical, and he is called a miraculous craftsmanship." He also said: "The dragon flew out of the right army's nest." According to the "Xing Zhi" written by Zhang Xu, a disciple of Chen Baisha, "people all over the world got the scraps of paper and hid them as family treasures." It was deeply valued by people at the time. The son-in-law of his teacher, Mr. Wu Kangzhai, begged him to sell dozens of calligraphy works due to poverty. "Every painting is easy to get gold and stars." Because Chen Baisha's calligraphy was unique, he became one of the famous calligraphers of the Ming Dynasty.
